Fog Light Switch is too bright at night

I purchased a Spyder Fog light kit for my 2010 Taco recently and had it installed by a local detail shop. My only complaint is that the switch on the dash is too bright and glaring in the cab at night when I turn on the headlights (see below). What makes it worse .. it's very bright green compared to the amber lights on my dash. And when I turn on the fog lights, the switch gets almost twice as bright.

I'd prefer the switch light to only come on when I turn on the fog lights. But I told the custom shop that I wanted the fog lights to turn of when I turn off the headlights. So I guess by doing so, this causes the button to illuminate.

So I was wondering if anyone can suggest a "film" I can tape over the button that would darken the button light? I've been searching Amazon and Ebay but can't locate an economical solution. Any thoughts other than purchasing a new switch? I'm not sure if the plug that came with the kit will work with a factory button anyway, and besides the factory button is not cheap.

I thought about that but I was wondering if I can get something in "tape" form to tape it on? Rather than buying a roll of it.

Just go to a tint shop and ask for a small piece, they have tones of scrap everywhere.

take off the switch, pull the push button away from the actual assembly, Use several layers of scotch tape on the inside to disperse and soften the light

I thought of that and that's what I will likely need to do, unless the switch is wired wrong since it's in sync with the headlights.

    Thanks!

Thanks VangaSTL … But If I pull the top of the button off, I'm afraid it might break. I'm not sure how it's held into place on this after market switch.

Thanks Carabe Makaria .. it's not an OEM switch. I guess I can contact Spyder to ask how to take the top of the button off to disperse the light inside with window tint.

I don't have any experience with Spyder but usually there just plastic clips that hold it in place. From all the switches I've been around you can pull straight outward and it'll come off, then just snap it back into place.

Thanks Skrain .. That's a great alternative, but it doesn't have an OEM plug in the back … it's an after market plug. I paid $30 for the entire kit and would rather not spend another $30 (including shipping) for the switch. Appreciate the advise though!

I have a switch that is too bright, I plan to add a resistor on the back to dim it. This won't work depending on how you wired your switches.. most people seem to do it the lazy way, not using the Dash lighting but just jumping the hot leads.

Hey Sandman .. that sounds like a job for a professional, which I am not unfortunately. So I'll probably go the lazy way :)

The same shit everyone else has.
It’s more than likely an LED. Add a resistor to it to make it dimmer.

I have the same switch. I just used a black permanent marker and colored over those areas. Not perfect but a quick fix. Couldn't rationalize spending $20 on a switch when the whole fog light kit was $35.

^^^This. The symbol light should have been connected to the dimmer circuit in your dash and the indicator should only be illuminated when the fogs are on. Take it back to the shop that installed it for you.
