This is my understanding of fog vs. driving lights:
Tacomas have clear fog lights. Fog lights can be clear or yellow.
Fog lights are mounted low, are aimed low and slightly outside and have a wide beam. The idea is that it adds light down low / close to show the road right in front of your vehicle, and light up the shoulders a bit in fog or snow showers. The reason they are mounted / aimed low is so they don't blind you by reflecting light off fog / snow right back to your eyes. Ever turn your brights on in a bizzard? Makes it even harder to see.

Driving lights are aimed high, have a narrow beam, and are mounted high. They light up things far down the road. They can be much brighter than fogs, or even your brights (if you are driving Pro Rally or off-road racing.)

I thought the purpose of a driving light is to extend your lighting very far in front of you for high speed driving. If I'm driving 80 mph on a dirt road, I need to see what's going on hundreds of feet in front of the vehicle - at that speed I don't really care what's going on right in front of the bumper.

What you describe, imho, is not a driving light or a fog light - I'm not sure what it's called - "off-roading lights"?

I think of fogs as "super low beams" and driving lights as "super high beams".

i found a way to rig my fogs as dtrls and illumitate the switch when the are on. they are still fully controllable at night. i am for fogs anytime. i am a logger and don't feel like smoking a deer at 80km/h in the bush because i couldn't see well enough to miss it.
