I just did this mod for my 2012. I connected to the tow relay but instead of putting the exposed wire to bottom opening, I went to the one above that. Idk why but it wouldn't work with bottom one. The fogs turn on with key on or off.

    Many, the list goes on..
So I did this Mod on my 2011 TRD some time back and had no problems. I recently hooked up my friends trailer with brakes. When I hooked up the lights the brakes immediately locked up on trailer. I unhook lights, brakes release on trailer. We then hooked trailer up to friends SUV. No problems, lights, brakes work fine.
Anybody have problems with this Mod causing this? or, Could this be a problems with initial wiring harness in truck that I'm just now discovering? THANKS!

I'm running the Prodigy brake controller with this mod towing a tandem-axle Wells Cargo and have not had this issue...what brake contoller are you using?? I'm assuming you are using the factory brake controller wiring harness/adapter from the factory that came with your truck?? Try reversing the mod back to stock to see what happens with the trailer brakes--let us know what happens--OLY

So here are the questions I have...

Should this be fused? If so what size fuse would you recommend?

I did OP's mod yesterday. I probably read it 10+ times as well. After I did it I wondered why I read it so many times. It was easy.

I tried this and did not have the towing tail relay. If I pick one up at autozone will it still work?

This MOD does not bypass the factory foglight fuse. All this wire is doing is taking power from the out side of the towing relay and using it to activate the fog light relay. The fuse for the towing light protects this wire. If you tow a lot and worry about this wire shorting out to ground and blowing the fuse for towing lights then you can place an inline fuse in that wire, but it is unnecessary.

Since mine did not come with the tow relay can I just pick one up and plug it in and wire it to work?

I would say yes if there are wires going to where you plug the relay into, but I am unsure if Toyota ran the wires and hooked them up if the truck did not come with a tow package. It's worth a try?
