I just traded in my 92 4Runner for a 02 Tacoma. How on earth do you turn on the factory fog lights? I can't see how. The owners manual doesn't even mention them. I see there are threads here on how to have them be on same time as head lights but just wanna know how to turn on.

    Thanks,

Pretty sure they don't have fog lights from factory. The lights in the lower bumper area are signal lights

You wish those were fog lights.

I wish they were DRL so I wouldn't need to put OSRAM LED DRL in mine. ;)

I don't know why people hate DRL's so much. I always have my headlights on every hour of the day. Haha.

I don't hate DRL. Actually this is blooming awesome in Poland that DRL is mandatory at daytime (or low beam). There are no cars hiding - I see them all.
In USA I always drove with my headlights on, but because I use "high brightness" bulbs, I had to change them every half year. With LED DRL the visibility (meaning being seen) is as good as ever but no need to change bulbs. But I still drive low beams at day time with lower visibility like during the rain for example.

I did the same to my 4Runner - I replaced original fog light housings with OSRAM LED FOG/DRL so I have all: high power LED for DRL and for FOG.

Thats what I was guessing. Just wanted to make sure. Before this 94 was the newest auto I've owned. And with the other threads I found.

I got some sweet tits fogs on my All Trac in the background here. They were spot lights but switched em over to fog cause I don't drive it off road.

switchback LEDs in the turn signal housings, add in a third hot lead to the connector and you have your DRL/turns. reference:

Instead of wiring it to the Headlight like the OP of that thread did, I went this route using the AAC.

Don't forget the flasher relay to resolve hyperblink with LEDs.

These are the bulbs I installed back in 2016 - no issues yet.

Sorry to say but this is done "incorrectly" (I mean the DRL part, the LED flasher is good). It would not pass the inspection here. Not only because the blinker housing is not "certified" to be DRL but the problem is that it does not turn off for night driving. DRL (in USA and Europe) has to go of automatically when you turn on parking lights, low beam or high beam. Otherwise they are just another type of "Christmas lights" that are not legal and often dangerous when blinding other drivers.

By the way in Europe they are a bit anal about "certification". For example DRL had to be stamped with "Euro Certification" on the lenses. Same for fog lights. For example OSRAM LED FOG DRL I have in my 4Runner are legal for Europe and USA because of this writing engraved on lenses:

This is checked during the annual inspection. It actually happens here, that the car can get pulled over and towed away as not road worthy by pissed highway patrol just because of using illegal lights - illegal because of missing engraving on lenses.

I've been driving Euro headlights (not DOT legal) for years in Cali with no problems. :hattip:
Cali is natzi about smog, everythong else is free for all. One of many reasons I moved out.

Got me thinking. Wonder how I could wire this to actually kill the power to the DRL side once the headlights are turned on (@BartMaster1234). Basically function as designed, a turn signal flashing amber.

I'm confused, so a DRL besides when it's used as a turn signal?

Its a switchback led. Currently when the ignition is on, it's lit as a drl and when the signal is activated, flashes amber. What I was getting at is have it kill the DRL mode of the switchback when the headlights are stitched on via the stalk.

    Follow?

It deponds on your switchback bulb design. If you cut the power to the "white" side does the "yellow" side still work?

I have switchback bulbs with yellow and white independent so it works like normal dual filament bulb. But I have seen bulbs with one contact providing the power and the other is a signal for switching. That bulb would not work as blinker with no white side powered.

Oh so you don't want the running lights on at night?

If your switchback bulb can light yellow chips when no power is provided to white chips then really you can turn off your DRL when parking lights are on. Easy to do but you need one more relay. The coil would be powered from any green wire connected to the tail fuse (or simply saying green wire going to corner lamps). The wire between AAC and DRL bulb would be switched off by that relay (cut and connect this wire to NC contacts on relay). Diagram below:

I already figured it out. I had been meaning to add in a switch so I could turn it off when the ignition was turned to ACC or ON. On occasion I need the key turned to ACC and out of the vehicle - don't need the DRL's lit. If I want them off at night, I'll just use the switch and yes, the turn signal portion will still function. Would be nice to have the DRLs automatically switch off when the headlight stalk is switched on and headlights are powered but whatever. Manual switch will do the job. Good enough.

I did the DRL mod on my Tacoma. It's super easy. You just turn on your headlights.

They even turn off automatically when the ignition is off.

    :D
The other mod I was was to move the turn signals to the side marker lights, which does actually require some work, but the cost is minimal, only need some epoxy.

Just cut off the bulb mounts form the turn signal housing and drill a new hole in the side marker housing. might need to grind/sand the bulb mount a bit to fit, but just epoxy it in place.
