For those of us who have had people say, "Your not supporting american labor by purchasing a tacoma," or anything along those lines by someone who drives an "American truck," well its time we dont take crap anymore. abcnews.go.com has a feature that lets you plug in the make and model of your vehicle and see just how much of it is made in America. So... I decided to try it. Here are the results:

    Chevy silverado: 61%
    Dodge Ram:70%
    Ford F series:60%

    Toyota tacoma:70%

So there, no body driving one of the big three full size trucks can say something to you about not buying American. Granted, the Dodge Ram is tied but thats still no more american than the tacoma.

I thought I read somewhere the Ram used to contain so many foreign parts it was technically considered an import?

They built so much garbage in the 90's that so many people, myself included, switched over to foreign. No point in switching back.

Who cares. The economy in Canada is fantastic. I'm also a union steam fitter and have heard nothing but compliments. The USA is just blinded by their own stupidity imo

I would love to find out the percentage in my 2001. I do know it was Nummi-built in Fremont, Ca. but far as parts-I'm thinking still imported from Japan then? Anyone?

I miss the good old days when they were built in Japan, with Japanese parts. I don't trust American made stuff.

The only place I've seen people be fanatical about American made vehicles is Detroit. In 1996, I visited a girlfriend who lived in Detroit, and she actually tried warning me off from driving my Honda Accord up there. I drove it anyway, and yes, I got flipped off, cussed at, etc. Screw them--Detroit was, and still is, a cesspool.

As for "American" manufacturers, my brother bought a new Silverado Z71 4X4 off the showroom floor (6" lift put on by the stealership) last year and it's been at the dealership more time than it's sat in his driveway. That's after he purchased a new 2010 Camaro SS that kept shutting off intermittently at highway speeds--it's still at the dealership periodically as they never have completely isolated the issue. So, $90K in vehicles and they are crap.

After owning a vehicle from about every manufacturer during the course of my life, I will now only buy from Toyota, Subaru, Kia, or BMW (Motorrad division only). The rest of the auto companies can go to hell. The only Fords I would even consider buying are F-250 or F-350 series trucks, or possibly a Taurus SHO, for sentimental reasons only.

So people can say what they want about "Japanese" manufacturers, but frankly, I'll stick with them, thank you.
