If Toyota made a major powertrain upgrade, I'd trade my '16 Taco...

Well the current ranger has been offered for awhile, just not here. Now ASSUMING it doesn't have a completely new engine/drivetrain combo I can only HOPE it won't be to buggy. Really though, I'm not holding my breath for it one way or another.

I agree, I see a bunch of posts saying "Toyota is so great, my tacoma had no issues the entire 3,5,7 years I owned it!"

Is that what people are basing reliabilty on these days? That short of a time frame?

Reliable to me is 150k miles with standard maintenance.

Extremely reliable to me is 200k, 250k with standard maintenance.

People are boasting that their 3rd gens with 1000 or 2000 miles on them ride like a dream and they have full faith based on that that Toyota is heads above the rest of the competition in reliability.

People talk about these trucks like they are going to all go 300k miles with standard maintenance and maybe a few minor part replacements while Ford trucks are going to be shittin out ecoboosts on every major highway by 100k miles.

Well, I'm ready to be proven wrong, but I'm not jumping on that same train so fast. Slipping transmissions, howling differentials already...not good.

As you said, we'll see what it looks like in 15 years.
