What are these creature comforts you all keep talking about that the taco has but a newer wrangler doesn't? I can't think of anything my 14 taco has that my 09 wrangler unlimited Sahara have.

5100's all around with OME 884 at 0. Weathertechs, Carhartt seat covers. BFG KO2's 265/70/17. T4R SEMA wheels. 18% tint on front windows. General Springs HD 4 leaf pack, Leer 100 XR shell.
Went from an 03 tacoma sr5 to a 2010 wrangler jk. traded it in after 14 months for another tacoma

for the wrangler I put a 2.5" teraflex coil lift, bilstein 5100's rugged ridge wheels and 35" toyo's on it and didnt lose a dime when I traded it in.

cant go wrong with either in my opinion.

This is a good thread for me to post in!

I had a '97 TJ I sold for an '07 AC Tacoma... That I traded for an '06 LJ... That I traded for a '15 AC Tacoma!

Had 2.5" lift and 32's/33's on both Jeeps. They were incredibly fun and capable, but also incredibly inconvenient and unreliable. I was always working on them, and I really didn't wheel them that hard. I wheeled the '07 Tacoma way harder than my Jeeps, and never had an issue.

Even with the LJ, I never had enough room for my gear, and if I wanted to bring an ATV/snowmobile/motorcycle/whatever along, I was stuck towing a utility trailer, sometimes to places where a trailer was very inconvenient.

Given the choice, I would definitely choose the Tacoma over Jeeps.

I sold a 2013 Rubicon Unlimited that I had $46k into and got a regular cab 2014 4x4 Tacoma. I could not be happier. The Jeep was a great vehicle and I loved it, but others loved it more...that's why I sold it. I was offered more than I could turn down. My youngest child is about to start driving, so I didn't need the 4 doors any longer. This is my 4th Tacoma and I love it. I just like simple vehicles. Jeeps are great too...I've had 9 of them. If a Jeep suits your needs, get one. They are fun and highly adaptable.

If you need a truck, get the tacoma.

If you need an SUV, (with a kid they are 100% more convenient), look at the 4runner and the Wrangler.
Drive both, and see which you like better. Jeep would definitely have more of a fun factor. Less space in the back, but it's still covered space. 4runner will probably ride better, but Jeeps don't ride too bad unless lifted.

If I was looking for a new vehicle due to increasing family size, and didn't need a truck daily, I'd pass on the tacoma.

I have also had both rigs. You cant beat either one. My 2011 JK had more power and much better fuel economy. My old man has a 09 JKU (4 door) on 40s, super charger and all the goodies and it drives like its stock.. With the 4 door Jeep, you have plenty of room in the back for things. And if you need to haul something, the seats fold down for lots of room. All depends on what lift you have, tires and such.. I now have an 06 Tacoma and love it for the bed, Ive always had Jeeps and bigger trucks such as crew cab long bed ford on 40s..

Like others said, drive both and see what you like. Here is a pic of the old mans Jeep :D

I have both - '09 4 door Wrangler on 37s, 1 tons, full armor and a '13 double cab Tacoma on 33s, leveling kit, leather, etc). I love them both, but they are very different vehicles. If I had to pick just one, I would probably go with the Tacoma because I spend more time on road than off.

The Jeep is far more capable offroad than the Taco due to solid axles and coil springs, better transfer case, etc. I have no real concerns going down tight trails, plowing through deep water (no carpet, drainplugs, Trek Armor seat covers, hurculined), but on road it's much less tight, wanders around the road, shitty get-up-and-go, etc. Obviously this is way worse than a stock Jeep but even then it's not the same as a Tacoma. However... you can't take the top and doors off the Taco and just cruise in the sunshine :)

The Tacoma is much nicer on road - less road noise, more power, more reliable, better MPG... just more creature comforts. But I sure as hell wouldn't put it in situations I'd easily put the Jeep in.

Hopefully this rambling helped a little...

I'm pretty sure I'd trade my Jeep, Tacoma, and wife for his Tundra

I went from a 2004 TJ Rubicon to a 2010 Tacoma TRD DC OR as you can see in my signature. My TJ was lifted 4", 33's, armor, custom bumpers, winch, etc. Rubicon was unstoppable off road but had no room, couldn't haul much, reliability was OK, not as safe as Tacoma, and handled like a brick on road. I went for the Tacoma because I needed to haul things like firewood, MT bikes, etc. Also I needed 4 doors for my family, wanted higher towing capabilities, a safer vehicle, a better driving on road vehicle, and a vehicle that could handle trails and be modified just as much as a jeep, hence my reasoning for going with a Tacoma TRD off road. Did I mention Toyota reliability and resale were also big motivation.

I had a mint 88 YJ as a toy and loved it so much i got rid of that and my daily vehicle for an 05 TJ.
That was when i lived in a condo.

Drove the TJ for 2 years, bought a house and that was the end of that thing.
no space for shit, no room for passengers and i even bought a small 4X8 trailer thinking everything would be ok... Not so much.

In retrospect i wish i would have kept the YJ for beach cruisin and just got a tacoma from the get go.

I had a Jeep and the reason I got rid of it, is simply because the kids were sitting way to close to the back of the jeep when I would pick up my kid and her friend after school.
It became an issue for me when I almost got rear ended while siting at the lights. Thankfully she swerved to miss me and hit the guy beside me and that was the 'oh, shit' this has gotta go moment....

I had a 2006 TJ for 6 years before I sold it for the Tacoma. The only reason I sold it was my wife had a 2007 Rubicon so we didn't need 2 Jeeps. She wanted the Tacoma and gave me her Rubicon. Last year we divorced and she wanted her Rubicon back so I got the Tacoma. I loved both Jeeps but liked the TJ better. I miss it and would rather have the Jeep instead of the Tacoma. I had it for 6 years and never had 1 problem out of it. Jeeps are one of those things that you either like them or hate them. I liked the rough ride, wind noise and ability to take the top down and doors off. It was simple and not overly complicated. It never leaked as some people have experienced.

I have AAA and I have never used it for myself. I have used it 3 times to tow my grams jeep liberty. My mom also used to have a liberty. It was nothing but problems and she ended up getting rid of it. Her jeep was also the only vehicle ever to leave me stranded and walking. You couldn't give me one.

I got a 2014 DCSB. Would have gone with a 4-Runner but I wanted manual and a rear locker. The Taco is the perfect mix of driveable, family-friendly, cargo space, and off road capability, with a gazillion options to max it out. Sure, a Rubicon might be more capable, but you sacrifice reliability.

If I was Jay Leno and could have a vehicle specifically for off-roading... a CJ7 would be at the top of my list, possibly below a Scout.
