Ford F350 upgrade and maintenance log

So the front axle is now being rebuilt, shop recommended a new trac bar ball joint so I'm opting to get the synergy manufacturing track bar and adapter slug.

I would have gone with the Carli unit but they only work on 2.5inch and up lifted trucks. I don't plan on lifting more than an inch or two at most so this is still a worthy upgrade.

 

New ball joints, bearings, seals in. Now pending new track bar and adapter to install.

new seals, u joints, and cover installed. Ready to go back in. Pending delivery of new track bar and adapter. Looking forward to getting everything axle related wrapped up to move into the fuel system and steering.

 

Oil change time

Comes factory with a magnetic drain plug. Makes sense cause turbo.


old napa filter and housing. I think these are actually together. Makes sense cause back when the 6.0 was new these were an issue.

i went with the riffraff oil cap cause it'll be more durable than the plastic housing, looks good, works with the OEM filter, and that they put a 6.0 powerstroke in a r35 gtr.

when underneath I was able to examine the truck a bit more. So I believe this is the original transmission filter. So I'll order a new one and some redline stat.

also noticed this coolant hose was sitting on the steering back and transmission cooler line. I clipped it back and all is well. Seems the previous tech has a bad habit of not doing anything 100%

got this additive. Seems to help a bit.


Good for another 5,000 miles.


Got these tie downs as they are invaluable on the Tacoma and for some reason only till now have the big 3 noticed people want OEM tie downs. Got to order two more pairs offset tie downs.

 

Track bar showed up today. It's heavy duty.

 

Airdog fuel pump came in.

 

Went to Houston to hang with @Torspd and wrench.

Stock exhaust cut up.

Turbo back done.
Airdog got it about halfway done. We'll complete it tomorrow.



It's currently mounted on the truck, just needs to be hoses connected and the wiring done.

 

Let's offer ourselves for exhaust installs. We'll knock them out in no time now.

 

The f350 has responded well to the simple mods @Torspd and I have done. Today I'll drop it off to get the new front axle installed with the new track bar. So I'll get 4wd back and should handle better with new ball joints and and the track bar.

 

Great pizza, good cars, and a lasting memory of that exhaust install on my bicep. Lol

The hard part is over with though.

 

Tried to get truck aligned but the drag link and tie rod are seized, even with fire. I have ordered the synergy drag link and tie rod with the fox steering stabilizer to replace it.

Hopefully, it is in stock and ready to ship out so I can install it asap. Might buy other small things for it this weekend like a new ficm.

 

So I installed my new alternator. The stock one these trucks come with are not adequate for the stock electrical demands. And it was obvious this one was original.
First was taking the belt off. A cool trick is you can pull the belt to release tension and lock the tensioner in place. Just need two sets of hands lol but that's the hardest part.


so unwisely I took this bolt out. It doesn't need to be removed for this job but since I plan to install a bigger intake manifold down the road it was nice to remove and clean the threads.

The new alternator is this usa diesel 185a alternator. Has enough reserve for a few extra electrical upgrades.

Installed on the truck. Not pictured is that I had to drill out the stock terminal a tiny bit to fit over the stud. I might look into getting a cover for that terminal it's a bit too close to the hood for my liking but truck ran great.

So on initial start the voltage starts low like at 11-12 then it ramps up to 14 like pictured so I suspect it's time to replace the batteries. I'll probably get them from Costco as they sell some interstate batteries. I'm thinking of going with the AGM even though they have a lower cca rating.

 

Definitely get a cover.
