I seen a guy with a second gen get stuck in a mud hole, waterline was barely above the bottom of the cab. Carpet was soaked and puddles were forming inside the cab within 5 minutes.

The secret is it will become a submarine when it’s under the water, then it will turn into a piece of wreckage... and then if in sea water, coral

I am in fact a really lucky guy, but we also did 4-5 runs before filming this in the rental tacoma the video is shot from so we knew exactly how deep it was :)

Crap. And no mods to the intake?

I hydro locked the motor on our old saab once misjudging some water on the road. Similar intake location in the fender, but much lower than the Taco. After pulling the plugs, water shot up about 20ft. I had to disconnect the intercooler also. It pumped out once the engine was running again.

I took it for a nice long drive and was good for many years after that. Still going after we sold it to a neighbor almost 5yrs ago.

stock intake the only mod I would consider is a snorkel.

I'm not a fan of CAI intakes never have been, not necessarily because of hydrolock potential but mostly because after market filters just don't filter as well as OEM ones in my experience. The guy that hydrolocked in mud sounded like he had a CAI so makes me wonder if that had something to do with it.

The way mud was coming straight up his fenders makes me wonder if the aftermarket bumper and/or removed fender liners also contributed as well. Every mod we do effects the factory engineering of these trucks in ways we don't always consider :/

I've hydro locked my old MKIII supra as well exact same way you did to your Saab, I had a CAI on that one though that sat REALLY low, like 10" off the ground, I drove through a big rain puddle not even thinking at all, luckily I heard my engine choking and shut it off before real dammage was done.

Why not? I go under water all the time with a snorkel, you just have to hold your breath?

K&Ns helped our turbo cars spool up better, but that was about it. I'm sticking with OEM paper on the Taco, myself.

I tried to read that IG post, but that shit is worse that texting teenagers. I didn't catch the CAI part, but it was said that the wheel well liners were still on. Mud pumping out the fender is a pretty good sign that it was where it shouldn't be though. Even with a CAI, water could have been pushing through the intake hole into the engine bay.

Pretty wild week for Taco abuse.

This is very true but brings back bad memories from my supra days. I was determined to make the AEM intake with K&N filter work as it fit perfectly with the rest of my mods and sounded amazing. But it created some sort of turbulence in the intake that fucked with my MAF readings but only sporadically it was really weird. Was a BITCH to tune and I don't think I ever fully solved the problem until I switched to megasquirt. I think i even tried converting to a lexus and then even a ford MAF all in vein. This was like 15 years ago so I forget now but I know it was a BITCH but I wanted that CAI so bad I just dealt with it.

I hear you. Hearing some turbo spool with a filter swap is worth so much other pain. I miss hearing that and feeling the kick from the turbo when it spooled up (the Wife's Forester spools like a diesel / no real kick). In the end, most of that excellent motor was a waste since the wrong wheels were getting the power. We might still have that car if it was RWD.

Yeah I had a Legacy GT for a while with I think the same turbo as your wifes forester, I put on an SPT intake just for the SEXY ass whoosh sounds it made.

My MPG went from 18mpg to 14mpg.... just couldn't help but constantly boost it everywhere after that lol.

Ours is a 2014 XT with the 2.0 DiT. Equal length headers and a twin scroll. Not as much fun as the old 2.5 XT / GT. I kept trying to get her into an MT WRX, but noooooooo. . .

I might get a hybid BOV just for giggles someday. But then, she's still pissed that I debadged it when I fixed a bunch of scratches on it the other week.

I agree with this. I also either follow behind someone else after they complete the crossing, or walk it if the depth is unknown. I have made a few that really got the pulse going. I have not made it once in a polaris ranger...
