For me, I'm not waiting 10,000 miles just to get a "free" oil change. I'm not that tight on cash.

#1 change your oil every 5k yourself, not 10k as the dealer suggest.
    # 2 my sister drove her 6.0 GMC Yukon 45 miles with no oil after Midas forgot to put oil in. After the gm dealer tore apart the whole motor it is still fine after another 40k. Amazing. Hopefully the Toyota motor will hold up the same for you :fingerscrossed:

Now if he had changed his own oil and ran it on a quart and a half of oil, had a problem, they would void his warranty. Now its their fault, and they say it ok. Fuck that, it's not ok. Shove their mistake as far up their own ass as they would to you.

Work overalls are like $30 from Wal-Mart.

My county has a waste oil tank at the dump that I pour it into. My drain pan holds 12 quarts, so every other oil change I empty it. But they also take waste oil at O'Reilly's and other places.

The reliability of that engine is now in question and that was most likely a major reason why you purchased a Toyota. The life span of that engine has been decreased and no one knows when it'll crap out, that is unacceptable! I would never feel confident in that truck again and I'd be worried about taking it on a 1k mile trip and leaving me stranded. If they say that everything is fine and don't want to put a new long block in it, then demand that they buy it back from you. Shouldn't be an issue if they are "confident" that it's fine.

I would rather have Toyota give me free filters instead of the free changes, I have the free changes but still have done them myself. I take my time and clean the engine bay, inspect things, grease the driveshaft, rotate the tires and clean the wheels, its a good way to spend a couple of hours.

Where I live any place that changes oil is required to accept waste oil from the public so its easy to dispose of old oil.

If they don't want to really do anything just drive it over to sales and trade it in. If they give you grief about service records showing it recently being driven without oil just point the finger at the service dept and say that they said it would be fine.

That's some quality bullshit right there. Keep dogging them for a new engine.

Sometimes having it done "cheaper" has it's consequences... no oil, stripped drain bolts, drain bolts not tightened... the list goes on and on. Having a express lube place do my oil changes is something i'm not willing to take a chance on... way too many threads like this one. I look at oil changes as a bonding experience with my truck... and it's actually a pleasure to do.
As far as disposing old oil it takes me about 10 seconds... the recycle truck picks it up at the end of my driveway. Check with your local recycle service.

Quick and easy is something paid for for some, but it takes me less than 15 minutes to do all of that, and another 5 to dispose of my oil.

I would like to know about this also. Sorry if I missed the post that answered this, I went through all 10 pages looking. I'm not saying the OP missed it while driving off, but I would like to know for future ref if this is not a reliable indicator of low/missing oil. Every time I change my oil and start for the first time I look for this and make sure it goes off after a couple of seconds, if not I immediately shutdown and do an inspection (never had to do that though).

I take used oil for recycling to an O'Reilly's store near me. I don't buy oil there, they don't care.
