Changing my oil is a joy, I look forward to giving the truck some love.

Even with my 5-lug sitting low I don't need to jack it up. Fumoto valve up front, slide under with my creeper, start draining. Roll creeper around to passenger door, reach up with oil filter socket with an extension. A little oil on the new filter gasket, open up the oil. Spin on the new filter by hand until tight. By then oil is drained, so close the fumoto and fill. Reset oil warning light.

Every other change head to OH, OH, OH O'Reilly, it's right next to my grocery story too, not even an extra trip.

No way I could let someone else do it without taking more time.

My neighbor just took delivery of a 2016 Tacoma. 5K miles down the road he says transmission is acting funny. He take sit to the dealer and they find it was almost bone dry. Dealership gave him a LIFETIME warranty of parts and labor for the transmission. I suspect thats what you will be getting on your engine. Yeah, it sucks, but at the present time thers nothing wrong with your engine so they arent going to replace it. Take the warranty, then when you hit 75K miles, drain the oil, blow the motor, replace oil and utilize warranty. 8*O

(sorry if this solution was stated earlier, I didnt want to read thru 11 pages of 'you should sue them and demand a new car and a house and get a lawyer and call the President of the United Sates)

In the past people have voiced concern with the Fumoto valve i.e. it can be opened by debris while off roading. ANyone ever hear of this actually happening?

Most of the time, ya we have to take it somewhere. When usedan to live in CA, we had the option where we could call the city and they would pick it up, so all the guys on our street would all change our oil around the same time and one of us would call the city so they only had to come out to our street once.

None I've heard. You have to Push UP and then twist it 90 degrees to open. I could see if you had to Pull Down it could snag on something, but it's not.

I heard some people taking extra precaution and putting a hose clamp over the handle.

My Fumoto valve came with a plastic clamp that fits over the valve to prevent accidental opening. The only way it's going to leak is if the valve itself is torn off while off-roading and even that is very unlikely to happen.

I think you are a tad over thinking this. First off, I do it in the garage on a level surface. I'm also 6'4" 300 LBS and I can get to the drain plug with no issues. I also have toyota OE filters in said garage. I also have oil in the garage. I also have a drain pan and funnel in the garage. Therefore, I pay $4 for the filter. $22 for the oil (Mobil 1). So for $26 and we'll call it 15 mins of my time, I get it done. I also get the quality time with my 6 yr old girl showing her how to change oil AND I get to spend time in the garage, which I love. It's a win all around.

Waiting with baited breath here on the result.

I do enjoy doing my own oil changes, but not really doable in colder months as I can't work in my garage. Having 2 jobs, a house that I'm busy fixing, and an ill parent takes up a lot of time as well. To each their own..

It's all about priorities. I used to LOVE doing my own work; it's almost therapeutic. But when times get busy (like right now), it's easier to pay someone else.

    Nonsense??? really?

Why didn't you just tell us you're a first year law student .... Your statement changes everything. So you're saying the OP should just suck it up and take his lumps??

If you were in the situation the OP is in, I'm confident you'd ask for a new engine.... Then again, maybe you actually don't care if you got walked on by a dealer.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but go here (blackstone-labs.com) and request a free kit now. (The kit is free the analysis is $28) They take a few days to weeks to show up. Then be there when they drain your oil for the first time. Send it off for an unbiased analysis.

op. sorry the dealer assaulted your truck. it's a reasonable expectation that if you bring your truck into the dealership they should be able to successfully complete an oil change.

If it was me, I wouldn't want the truck. it really sucks because you got the last of the second gens and if 3rd gens don't do it for you, you are stuck with a different remedy. I certainly wouldn't want those clowns to swap in a new motor or attempt to fix the one they may have damaged. I'd be looking to leverage the situation to get into a new truck with the best terms possible.

As far as lawyering up, by design, it's a very, very slow process. My advice is that the law is a cannon and it is very inefficient at targeting snakes in the grass.

    best of luck

I have also been wondering if the VVT System is going to be toast on the OPs Engine from oil starvation, keep fighting for a new engine...
