Yes it is variable valve timing and if I understand it correctly it uses oil flow and pressure along with the ecu to function.

Without oil analysis draining and filling looking for shavings isn't going to do much. Hope you were there while they did the drain and fill to ensure no shenanigans on their part.

At least there is always some residual oil in their during drain and fills.

What was I thinking there is no way it could have ever happened . House fire insurance claims are always really from accidents too.

I agree. That is less than a quart in the system and probably not enough for the pump to maintain suction. Which is just like having no oil.

When you say the guy, you mean the dealer for selling it and then having the customer claim against the dealer?

Does the op owe some moral obligation to not offload the truck being that it could be sold to someone else?

Sorry, I have been out of the state dealing with a sick family member. When it rains... anyway, no resolution yet. I have tomorrow off and will be calling the dealership and Toyota.

I'm trying to stay classy. I feel like there are enough douche bags in the world looking to sue and I don't want to go down that road.
I have been thinking about seeing if they would trade it in, but it was bought as a hail damaged vehicle and then it was involved in another hail storm and had to have the hood and roof replaced. I don't know how that would affect the value.

I appreciate all of your responses, even you smug bastards that insist on changing your own oil. I'm not into changing my oil and I have a penchant/talent for cross-threading. Does this make me less of a Tacoma owner? Probably.

So I will go ahead trade it in for a convertible yellow or other non-threatening color VW Beatle and change my name to Jaredina. Thank you for helping me come to this important decision.

Do you guys have a link to a non oil changing forum for crossthreaders that drink Skinnygirl wine coolers and cry themselves to sleep? Jaredina

Yes, this is what the service manager said. But I watched them pour 5 quarts in and then add some more. It isn't like they actually measured out another quart. They just poured some more in from another 5 quart container. Maybe they looked at the little clear line on the side and took note (sarcasm). Anyway, they have been nice and accepted responsibility. I'm going to discuss some options with the dealership tomorrow and see where it goes. If they turn out to be dicks about it, well then I have a couple of asshole options.
