All the best but I dang well wouldn't accept their statement as anything more then total BS because they'll forget they ever said it or acknowledged the problem down the road. At the very least a lifetime warrenty for all engine internals and a notorized statement admitting fault and agreeing to cover ALL costs to include a replacement vehicle.

And I can tell you it DID do damage internally, no oil pressure is bad ju ju. Of course they will lie, it could potentially cost them many thousands of dollars. I'd also call Toyota corporate and let them know for added documentation.

And I have people that think I'm nuts for doing all but warrenty work and wouldn't dream of letting lot monkeys touch my vehicle for things like oil changes. There isn't a mechanic alive or dead that will take the time and care I do while doing even simple things like oil changes. [like touching up the frame, wiping oil splashes off, looking for leaks, and looking for underside damage or tire issues.]

It's going to need an engine if it stopped running at a traffic light

One of our lube techs did this on a turbo regal. He got to buy an engine

Kind of ridiculous. You cant ask for more than you would get normally. The best request and only honest (not greedy) request is a new motor with the normal mileage/time warranty on it. Of course the warranty should be motor alone, not whole truck.

Dam I hate hearing these stories... so sad. Like mentioned ask for a new motor. If they refuse get the local news involved.

Wouldn't want them putting an engine in. Lifetime warranty to original owner would be my request. 200k engine warranty would probably satisfy me.

Thank you for the quick replies, I get that it is a total shit show. I already bought the extended 8yr warranty when I got my truck. I planned on having it for a while.

So here is the question since most of you think I should have the engine replaced. Do I do it now or wait for a couple years? Is this going to be something that affects the truck while I drive it for 2-3 years? I'm trying to make lemonade from a pile of dog shit.

BTW, the dealership is being really good about it. I know that this should be expected but I have dealt with enough assclowns in my life to know that it doesn't always happen.

Out of curiosity how could a dealership offer an extended warranty for there mess up and Toyota warranty it. They would tear it down and deny the claim, and then you would have to rely on your dealer to fix or replace it. I say make them do a full inspection on it and make them replace anything warn or damaged after say 1000 miles.

    Reserected from the dead.
Just drive the thing. Its not gonna leave you stranded. Its will make lots of warning noise before it dies. Deal with it later.

Get it fixed NOW, before management changes or someone "forgets" this ever happened

Didn't notice the oil lamp when I started and pulled onto the road, this is a pretty busy area and I was watching traffic when I pulled out. I made it a block before it died, but I know they pulled it out of the service area and had it washed before I got in.

Also, the service manager said there was a 1/2 quart in the drain pan and he thought there might have been some oil in the system. I'm not buying this, seems when you do an oil change you would drain out all but what was left physically in the engine. I'm not a mechanic so not totally sure.

For the mechanics out there, what does running an engine without oil potentially screw up?

Usually they shut themselves down before any real damage is done, but you restarted it and drove back. Did it ever make any loud noises or anything, if not you might be alright.

Might be alright applies if it was his mistake.

    This wasn't his problem.

A dealer warranty is worthless IMO. If the dealership is sold or goes under the warranty is also gone.

You drove a 1/4 mile with no oil in the engine / no oil pressure. Regardless of what the dealership told you that engine is done. I'm not even going to ask why you didn't check the oil level after the service. I always do this even when I change my own oil, even more so that someone else did it. Nor why you didn't notice the oil pressure light on.

Either way I would accept nothing short of a replacement engine at a minimum a long block.

+1 this is the correct way to check for damage and document the findings.

No this is incorrect. As soon as it started with no oil pressure there was damage to the bearings.

No they don't. This isn't an air compressor. An engine will run until it seizes
