If you are worried about resale value, why did you buy a Toyota? I drank the cool aid and believed that owning a Toyota is a long term commitment. I plan on having my trucks for many, many years. I plan on driving every dollar of equity out of toyota trucks. I don't care about resale. I got my value from driving the things trouble free for a very long time.

Resale to me means putting the thing on Craigslist on a Monday and having 30 phone calls by Tuesday night.

When I go to sell any of my current Toyota trucks, there will be north of 200,000 miles. I guarantee, there won't be a difference in sale price whether one has an original motor or not. it won't matter to the new owners.

One of the benifits the OP has in this situation is the replaced motor will show on the Toyotaowners.com website. Anyone can log in and type in the VIN of this vehicle and it will show that this is not an original motor. It will show it was replaced by the dealer. If the motor was replaced by a Jiffy Lube or similar, thes engine change would not be reported anywhere. Don't waste time with CarFax.

If I was buying a used Tacoma with 150,000 miles on it and it showed an engine swap at 15,000 miles, I could care less.

There really is no diminished value when it comes to these trucks,...unless you are one of the super elite that can trade in every 2 years. If that is the case, why the fuck are you in a Toyota and you don't really care if you lost $2k on the TI value.

The only value you could possibly lose would be trade in value if you were trading in because of a change in family situation, like more kids in the family all of a sudden. Even then, the salesman is gonna want that truck if you are getting into a minivan.

This! Have you seen how much a used Tacoma costs? This has been my dream truck since I was a teenager. I had a 2WD 1997 Tacoma and all I could think of was getting a 4WD. Now I get to drive around in Colorado thinking about how lucky I am.

Got the truck back last Thursday and took it up hunting over the weekend. Running good, although it sounds like a belt is loose, MPG are about the same 19.6 for the trip. But here is the weird thing, the brakes are really stiff now. When I step on the brake pedal it barely goes down and it is really hard. Anyway to adjust this? I'm not sure how changing out the engine would have effected the brakes but I'm open to suggestions.

Would that make a cricket sound? Like a bearing going out out or needing grease?

Thanks, I was looking at this wondering if they should be connected to something. Going to call the dealer and have him figure out what the noise is and fix the brakes.

Jared you are a good guy. I would have never taken a used engine. Never. I would have first called my lawyer and see what he had to say. I would have insisted on a new short block no matter the time involved. Dealer can always get you a temp truck.
Anything less than a short block or a new truck would result in a lawsuit. No matter the time.

It's a moot point and what's done is done. No sense in joining everyone else in this thread saying "Herp derp I wouldn't want anything less then XYZ and if they didn't then I'd do mean things"

The squeaky sound you are hearing is probably from one of the pullies.
