They're work there. They will just continue to moan that someone doesn't want to pay $900 per axle for brakes.

So, if you are reading this expecting a great resolution go ahead and stop and delete this thread.

Talked to the service guy and he said that they couldn't find any damage when they pulled the oil and filter. He said they even took a borescope and looked inside. His reasoning is, they added 5.5 quarts of oil when I got back and drained out 6.3 quarts out. He thinks that there was enough oil to keep everything lubricated.

So, I said that after doing some research it seems that there would have been damage if the engine stopped due to a lack of oil. He didn't disagree but said that if there was damage it would show up pretty quick, hence the 250-500 mile return. He said they would check the compression then as well.

I asked what a new engine would cost and he said it would probably be $20,000. I am not a mathematician but since I bought the truck new for $28, I can't imagine the price of a new truck is all engine.

So here I am, I have to leave tomorrow for some personal stuff and will be back on Monday. I'm planning on calling the manager of the dealership and then Toyota afterwards. Thank you again for your sage advice. I will update when I get back on Monday.

Also, on the way home the truck started shimmy'ing at 55MPH, the steering wheel was shaking back and forth. I'm assuming this is from them rotating the tires and not balancing them?

It was a lube tech, I don't think they pay mechanics to change oil. I'm 100% with you that everyone makes mistakes. It is how it is dealt with afterwards.

So for all of you go-getters that change your own oil. Please recognize that this is great if you enjoy doing it and have a place to accomplish oil changes quick and easy. For me, I don't enjoy changing my oil and would rather spend my time doing something else. I would rather pay $25 and have someone who flunked out of elementary school do it in a pit where they can finish in 15 mins.

Changing the oil and filter isn't rocket science, but people fuck up all the time. It just happened to be my turn. BTW, it was free as part of the Toyota Care program that does it as part of buying a new car. I hope this clears up some questions.

How does this change everything? I'm not doubting you but if you think I should be heading down a different road I want to know why and which way you would go.

When it comes to warranty work, Toyota is paying for that. The dealer did not live up to their end of the contract and damaged your truck. Either Toyota can make it right or the dealer can. But since the dealer doesn't want to, it's time to involve Toyota.

    Warranty work- Toyota
    Non-warranty- dealer

Makes perfect sense! I thought that was where you were going. I figured if a Toyota dealership messes up then it would still be on Toyota. That is also what the service guy said when I asked what happens if his dealership goes under or is bought out. But I can see where the dealership is different than the manufacturer

Dealers are privately owned, not by the manufacturer. So any non warranty work is on them.

I realize I'm late to the party but this is why Toyota never changed my oil. Not even for the first 25,000 miles when it was free.

I change my own. I use Mobil 1 0W-30 and a purolator oil filter. I know it's done, done right, and with quality oil. Sorry you had to go through that crap... do your own from now on.

I support the op when it comes to oil changes. I have done all my own changes for ever. It is getting harder to justify doing my own oil changes.

I still enjoy doing my own routine maintenance, but that is the only reason. It is not cheaper to do my own oil changes anymore.

After figuring in Time involved disposing the used oil, I will never be able to beat the oil change places price.
