i know of the leak that happens at the rear brake light. my car was parked all day on maybe a 5-10% decline. when i got into the car to go to wawa, i noticed a drivers pillar, there was a thin stream of water coming from the air bag cap? (dont know what else to call it). also noticed ceiling was wet around the front sides of the sunglass holder. small pool of water in my cup holders as well. im going to call toyota to make a appointment but anyone have this problem? its a 2017 tacoma trd pro. i checked behind the rear seats and floors in the rear and all seem dry back there.

Do you have the roof rack?

no, no roof rack or sun roof. guess i thought that was the reason i found it weird. i also find it weird if it is the rear light then how is it so wet in the front only and nowhere along the way to the rear section. 3rd gen problems :(

Well, that's good and bad. Must be the light and if truck was nose down on the decline. Water may pool or stream around the edges till it gets to the pillars I guess.

If you're mentioning "decline", as in nose is pointed down? That would explain leaking from rear's highest point ( brake light or shark fin ) dripping to lowest point if the decline was driver side biased. You eliminated RR and Pro has no hole in the roof.

The only openings in the roof are the pre threaded holes for the roof rack, the sharkfin, and the 3rd brakelight, has to be coming in from one of those areas.

If your truck is like mine '99 double cab you have the treads for the roof rack hidden under the robber molding. Pool it out and seal around.

OP, this dude has probably pulled off more lights on the third gen trucks than anyone for his mods. He could probably tell you what to look for.

I would think it could be the third light or maybe even the shark antenna on the roof, either way they owe you a repair and a new headliner.

    Good luck OP

Can I ask for a new headliner? Is that normal to ask?

Won't be able to tell until the entire brake assembly is out. From what my friends in Toyota service tell me, Toyota is claiming "bad seals". I don't believe it's "bad" just spec'd wrong. The new brake light has a weird curvature toward the top and the gasket "channel" is recessed...All that combined with too thin of a gasket and you have problems.
Here is the area I am talking about you can see the gasket material sits well below the outer lip. [IMG]

    This is my replacement foam; notice how it sticks out further;

Now this is all just my hypothesis....We may never know.

Go all out, I'd say new truck

update: they took apart the dead liner and couldnt figure it out/ recreate the situation but they did see moisture inside. they called toyota for the next step. next step was put the air in recirculating mode and blast a/c while using soapy water to find leak. THEY FOUND IT! was the seal to the windshield. they told me the machines do that part and didnt seal it all the way. they will take it out and put new seal by hand. also they gave me a new rav 4 to drive. i hate it..... thanks for reading folks!

That's odd, if you were on a decline, water always runs downhill so how would it get to the back?? Consequently, I eliminated the windshield from the equation.
I hope this is the last of it for you inseong, and you don't have to return back to the stealer.

    Good luck!
