They just started redesigning the Camp M and will go into production by March. It will be really close to their Camp X but smaller for the mid size trucks. Check out their Instagram @overlandexplorervehicles.

pictured is the prototype Camp M and it is photoshopped on my truck. The new one will be way cooler.

Smaller campers don’t get cheaper, they take just as long to build and are loaded with the same features as the bigger ones. Have you ever priced out an alucab loaded with furnace and water? Over $35,000 and zero isnulation

Yea. I kinda agree but after doing some research any kind of real camper is going to be close to that 30k mark... It's a bummer but those and the FWC look about as dialed as they get... Too bad FWC are a year out... If I could jump the line and line something up for the spring/early summer I'd be stoked. I'll have a chat with your buddy up there after the new year... Wondering what their lead time is.

Probably early spring, I was on the same boat as you and that is how I came across them and now purchasing the Camp M prototype from them. I needed a camper now and all the stars aligned, when the production model hits production I may upgrade but who knows. I haven’t even seen the prototype in person but we will pick it up in Montana next week. I’ll get a chance to look at the ones Big Sky RV has and I’ll post a walk through on here. I bet they are way more spacious than the photos can show.

Keep in mind, the ones without a cab over bed that Big Sky has are unique and the only 4 ever built are in his inventory. The next generation will have a cab over bed.

    Check out https://campovrlnd.com/

That’s what I have and I love it. It’s bare bones but since it weighs under 300 lbs it stays on my truck full time

Those are pretty cool but a whole different type of camping, the Overland explorer vehicles campers have an insulation value of r8 on the composite walls and r4 on the soft walls. 20 gallons of water, water heater, furnace and so on.

Yup! I agree, prices are crazy but the camper manufacturers are booked out months now, so expect prices to keep rising

Totally agree. At that point my thinking was that I would want a full size truck anyway. Im going to insulate mine with reflectix for winter camping, with some reflectix sheets that I can put up when the top is popped. We'll what kind of heater it needs.

I know what the prices are and find them ridiculous. I've owned a Flippac and FWC. I've spent nights in sub zero many nights. That insulation is overkill for the majority of the lower 48. It's going to weigh a lot. Even my shell model Finch was too heavy for the Tacoma with improved suspension.

There are other less expensive campers on the market. To each his own.

I purchased my 2001 Northstar in 2015 for $2,800. New furnace fan, thermostat, 3-way refrigerator, Lagun Table, bed strut, remote controlled skylight, solar with inverter, batwing, aluminum steps, water pump, tie down mounts. I'm probably in it for right around 6k total. But that does not include all the cool mods to my truck that the wife thinks were essential for the camper. ;) Although, they probably are because of the added weight. :notsure: I get into the mods over here.

Exactly my point. Super deal. Not farkled to the extreme overland status and I bet you got tons of use out of it for camping.

    Tons of use!

Here it is on my old 2001 Tacoma OR. Strange enough, the max payload capacity for the 2001 is 1,494 lbs., vs my current double cab payload capacity of 1,175 lbs.

The plate on my Finch stated 377lbs. It had to be much more. Loaded for trips I only weighed it once and I was far in excess of gross weight.

377 lbs??? that can’t be true. fwc tags list weight in both kgs and lbs, sounds like you were looking at the kg spec.

Tried to find a pic but no, fairly confident it was lbs.
I've heard from other owners when they weighed their campers it was more than the stated weight.

IMG_20201118_111803.jpg It's pretty easy transpose the values as you can see with mine.
