3" rough country lift, 1.25" wheel spacers, smittybilt roof rack, 4 kc lights in front, 2 kc light in rear, ax and shovel mount
so ive needed a new lift for a while now but i decided to go with something a bit more high quality than my rough country. my truck is my daily driver and my offroad rig. id rather not spend $3000 but i want something that will last and perform offroad. ive narrowed it down to these 2 options

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/FOX-Ultimate-suspension-for-05-Tacoma_p_1226.html

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/ICON-Stage-4-Tacoma-suspension_p_971.html

anyone with these lifts or any experience with lift kits your input is appreciated

well i live in maryland so when it snows they tend to throw down 3 times as much salt as needed so i may need to go with the one that is less prone to rust, unless they both tend to rust at the same rate

If you can swing it, Icon. The adjustable UCA's are really nice if you want to run bigger tires because you can increase the caster and get the tires off of your firewall. The added bonus of more caster is that it will handle much better in the dirt, while still being nice on the road.

I'd look for a uca that has a sealed ball joint and built in correction for alignment issues if you're concerned about rust. I'm in the process of rebuilding my icon billet ucas. They're toast after a year of driving (~10 000km).

I am pretty sure my icons are aluminum body...they say aluminum series all over it

Then what is the coating for? Are the threads steel?

    website says:

•6063 Anodized Aluminum body and reservoir Tubing for Superb Heat Dissipation, Excellent Corrosion Resistance, and High Tech Appearance

•6061 Aluminum Rod End, top can and internals insure Strength and Durability

I am not sure what the threads are but I would think they are steel just because of the hardness factor. I coated mine with T-9 the other day just as a precaution cause no matter what they are made of I do not want to deal with rusting issues. That is a chase that I will never win.

Yea, I was following that thread as well, I'd be furious to see $1-2K in suspension parts rust away like that, but was confused what would rust if everything is aluminum. We use Boeshield on our boat and trailor, stuff works well if you keep up with it.

IDK what would rust. I honestly don't understand why these companies don't protect the shocks better, I mean since they are rebuildable and you pay for that it would make since to make them last longer (rust wise) than my Bilsteins or OME shocks......but that is a whole different convo lol.

I have never used nor heard of the Boeshield until Saturday when I was picking it up at West Marine. glad it works well for you on your applications.

How do you like the CDC resis? Does the range of settings make that much of a difference?

I don't have the CDC but I always wondered the same thing. I honestly didn't think it would make enough difference to be that valuable to me.

that 3300 fox ultimate kit, would that be too much for a city truck that would probably see very little to no dirt/offroading? I just want a quality/good looking kit and I strongly believe in pay for what you get (to a certain dollar amount, ie not unlimited lol)

I think with either company you are going to be happy. I've seen guys around here running both Fox and Icon, it seems to be a personal preference. I'd go with the Fox kit because I've seen how tough those suckers are when you do decide to abuse them. I can't say the same thing about Icons. Rust is also a factor, but everything tends to rust so if you do some protecting you should be happy either way.

Again though, that's just my personal preference. I run Billi's because I can't afford either of those shocks :pout:
