I always joke that they do a TRD pro edition and guys line up like fools to drop $45k on a taco. I think they should do a galvanized frame, stainless steel fender edition, with grease zerks on the the ball joints and front end. Call it the "I plan on keeping it past the payment" edition!

I can't totally disagree with you there. I too would consider a galvanized frame. But if I look at all of the vehicles I've owned in the 50+ years I've been driving, none of them had a frame rot out. (And oh boy do we use salt here!) My current Tacoma and my last two F-150's were the first vehicles to have what I'd call "significant" frame corrosion while I owned them. The frame on my 2014 Tacoma has been Ziebart undercoated (something I'd never do again) but it still has more corrosion than I'd like to see. I think the corrosion issues have more to do with a conscious decision by some manufacturers (including Ford and GM) to cut back on the corrosion resistance to save money. Remember, there are far older vehicles out there with "painted" frames that have no serious corrosion issues.

As for putting Zerk fittings back on front end components, I have mixed feelings on that too. Some of us (me included) would love to see them because we'd actually use them to regularly lubricate our trucks. But one has to remember that the vast majority of vehicle owners don't even know what a grease fitting looks like, much less what to do with it and when. In fact that's why the manufacturers went away from them in the first place. (Well, that and added cost.) For those of us that would actually grease them, that type of component would definitely last longer. For the other 95% of the population, they actually wouldn't last as long because they were never lubricated. Sad, but true.

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone if their steel truck frame deteriorates and rusts after being exposed to salt for prolonged periods of time.

One would think Toyota learned to correct this problem after 2 generations. I would not buy one in if I lived in areas that salts the roads. Hell, I don't even drive mine to the beach.

Fluid Film every year. My frame looks perfect after 5 years of Connecticut winters.
I have a few spray cans of FF and I can touch up if needed.
I'm retired so I dont drive much during the winter but I rinse the underside once a month during the winter season , I really helps!
We have a Tacoma owner that resprays our trucks in the late fall and he does much better than the dealership , he makes a day gathering of it and we see our other Tacoma friends.

Typical locations are around the rear cross members, middle of the frame rails and like PackCon said near the cars you may see rust flaking on the frame and those areas usually blow right out with a light tap of a hammer because the inside rusts out before its too noticeable on the surface. Once you see a hole u know its a lot worse on the areas you cant see.

    UPDATE as of today 2/18/19

I know there has been some talk about the 4 runners being covered. So it may be coming in the future nothing confirmed as of yet. I know there has been a number of 4th generation 4 runners ( 2003–2009 ) that have had their frames replaced so if yours is rusted with a hole or a crack it may be covered but they are at complete discretion of Toyota atm.

Check the front section of the 4 runners, near the radiator support, front bumper mounting location, front boxed section and rear section including cross members for the common hole locations.

updated again much more information now.
This corrosion-resistant compound will be a limited service campaign identified as K0D for certain 2011-2017 Tacoma models. If a hole larger then 10mm is found along the frame rails or near the cross member hot rivet points the frame will be replaced under campaign ZKA. Other wise the frame will have a CRC coating performed at the front half of the frame, this includes the front boxes section and the open mid section. The inside frame rails will need to be cleaned and dried before a heated wax in used to coat the inside of frame. There will be no exterior coating like used in the 2010 and previous models.

I heard that the CRC coating from the 2005-2010 service campaign was junk and flaked off in no time. Is this new coating a fully wax based coating that will be more resilient? Or is it the same rubberized undercoating as before?

I have a 2011 living in MA and the frame is great so far but id opt out of a rubberized coating. I LOVE the idea of the hot wax coating inside the rails and whatnot. Im hoping for wax coating on the entire underside.

You can skip the baking soda. All you need is water to remove the salt.

I am not a fan of the rubber coating used on the previous years either however I don't think the issue was with the coating but the fact that the rust that was already there was lifting the coating and causing it to flake off. Yes this new coating is fully waxed base and should be more resilient. Kind of like fluid film but on steroids. The heat is required to allow the correct flow for the application and allow it to get into all areas of the boxes frame.

Regarding the updates, is there any time that this will be available? Or will that be coming in a later update?

So is what you're saying is that it is an entirely semi/hard wax coating applied inside and outside the frame, box sections and c-channel areas and all over the frame alike? Meaning that the rubberized CRC is no longer used at all on any part of the truck?

If it is indeed a wax coating, would Fluid Film, being a liquid wax, cause an issue with the newer harder wax adhering to the frame? Maybe we would be best to steam clean/strip our Fluid Film off before going in for the new coating...
