I can verify my local Toyota service center has nothing in their computers yet (as of Saturday, 3/9).

No updates as of yet, the procedure has not been released yet. As of this time the only thing the dealers have received is the online training module.

Straight up BS. Really disappointed, I hope I don’t run into any issues especially that I live pretty much in the salt belt. I did get it rust proofed this year so hopefully that helps.

Tundra Crewmax here I come lol!

Best way to prevent rust is to just clean down the under carriage threw ought winter and one during spring to make sure all the salt is off.

Vehicles last forever where I live .. I see a ton of super mint older gen 1 tacomas still rust free ... mild climate and zero salt beyond the parking lot. They use beet juice on the road a few times a year .. but it would still be nice to get the wax applied regardless.

Does anyone have any idea when this might be coming to Canada?
I called the Toyota dealership in Cochrane Alberta and they had no idea what I was talking about, but said they would look into it.

Fortunately my frame isn't too bad, but if Toyota is willing to do some preventative coating then sign me up. Otherwise my plan once summer hits is to get under my truck and sand of all the surface rust that had began to form in the welds, then hit the whole thing with rust inhibiting primer and a couple coats of paint. After that is all done, I will look into having it rust proofed.

Question: For guy that have sliders bolted on the truck with one of the attachment points being in the "boxed" section of the frame...should they remove the sliders before the coating is applied? I don't ever anticipate needing this as I live in Texas but I'm just curious.

All interesting, but two questions (rhetorical of course cause no one has the answer):
    - will it come to Canada
    - how much are they going to charge extra or complain about my ARB bumper and sliders haha

I took my sliders off when I had the frame inspection done back in 2015 or 2016, whenever that round happened. I find that I get a few spots that wear paint off between the sliders and frame that then bubble with rust over the winter and I wanted them to see those. I happen to take my sliders off every spring anyway to clean and paint anyway.

My '12, I got underneath with the garden hose and a spray nozzle, crammed the spray into the various openings on the frame and crossmembers. Sure was a lot of debris came out. A lot was trapped in the front boxed section, but it got forced out pretty good through the front of the frame, radiator support, engine and trans crossmembers.

The rear C-channel allows a lot of debris out from the trans crossmember back. Rear end downhill, water and debris floods out. The spare tire carrier traps a lot of debris also, and around the trailer hitch.

And yeah, 4Runners have some godawful frame problems in the rust belt states. When I bought the '08, being a Colorado vehicle, the frame looked good rust-wise, but when I got it home I found the frame rails, crossmembers, were absolutely packed with silty dirt. Packed an inch thick. If it was an Eastern vehicle I can imagine the frame would rust from the inside out. I didn't even stay under the truck waiting for the garden hose to flush it, just kept the nozzle crammed in and did some other chores for an hour. Took a long time to flush everything out.

You have to be careful with such things when you're working around rubber lines, wires, oil seals, etc.
I would generally recommend NOT using a power washer on the underside of a car. It doesn't take high impact to dissolve and wash away salt -- it takes high volume. Now if you have such a power washer and you're using it in the "apply soap" mode, then by all means go for it. That mode is not high pressure and just shoots the soap where it needs to go. Of course, you can also get nozzles for your regular garden hose that does the same thing.

I noticed that on every place that the frame is welded there is lots of rust built up. What's the best way to take care of this besides wire wheel? Phosphoric acid then paint or fluid film after rinsing with water? Or do I just leave it until this frame service campaign comes out?

    1) Start off with needle scaler, wire brushes, etc.

    2) Then hit it with a coat of https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-rust-encapsulator-platinum.html

    3) Then hit it with a coat of https://www.eastwood.com/extreme-chassis-black-gloss-finish-aerosol-or-quart.html

    4) Then hit the internal cavities you can't reach with a brush with this; https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-internal-frame-coating-14oz-aerosol.html (you'll need a few cans to coat it thoroughly).

    5) And finally, top it all off with this; https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B002HOG2A4

A pressure washer inserted into the frame openings would work fine. The object is to flush out the debris that gets in the rails and stays in the rails/crossmembers, radiator support. People use a garden sprinkler underneath to generally spray all over.

I would say the most quick and effective method I found (coming from great lakes heavily salted areas) to keep the under sides of cars clean is to spray off in those spray booths. Put it on soap (I get hot soap in my area), get on a knee and put that wand under every part. Do it when its dry and when temp is warm enough not to freeze solid before you finish. I wash the underside on average every two weeks during the winter or when ever there are snow and salt breaks.
