I would be worried about that. I would think you would want a dealership that has done several frame replacements already.

I have a few buddies at the Toyota dealer home, they said two days to get one done. Granted that was for 1st gens but I can't see them being all that different.

They may pay 40 hours but not at the normal shop rate .

Unless Toyota pays quite a bit more warranty rate then others.

2 people 40 billable hours is not very long.

No wonder they replace all the other corroded parts it would take much longer .

    Trying to remove things

I could be wrong but I think the TSB stated the warranty was 10 years or 15 if you had the CRC coating done after the first inspection. If the hole wasn't seen before that 10 year mark the OP might be hosed. It could be repaired but in that spot you would probably want to pull the motor. I fixed a 96 with a rotted frame a few years back that the owner was too lazy to get re-inspected by Toyota and his time ran out. Of course I was the fool who bought the truck afterwards.... Thankfully it was cheap and mint otherwise. FWIW rusting frames on Toyota's or any other truck for that matter is nothing new in the states that see road salt. It's why you almost never see anything old on the road. I've seen fullsize Fords and GM trucks with rotted frames that are 10-12 years old also.

They don't have 2 people on the job. Usually takes one guy 1.5-2 full days usually 14-18 hours. Depending on a few things I've seen take longer. Around here usually every bolt is rusted up and some stuff it just makes more sense to have them replace while doing the swap. They try to up sell while they are doing the swap (suspension, brakes, ect) to make more money and help the swap go smoother. Sure the first few someone does will take longer but once they get in a rhythm they jam them out. I've seen a couple take 3-4 days. You do need 2 bays so it takes away from other work. The shop still makes money, while its not as good as customer pay, or extended warranty (3rd party) it's still money and your keeping your techs busy. They don't make money standing around.

Hopefully I will be getting mine back today with a new frame. They got it a week ago, and put new lower control arms, brake lines, frame, and did a clutch job on it while there. It took a couple months for the frame to come in, and my local dealer has been very good about working with me. They had no Tacoma's as loaner vehicles, but he understood I needed a truck for work, and handed me a brand new 2016 Tacoma to use. My truck was lifted, had aftermarket parts, and an ARE topper on it, so I figured it would take longer than a couple days to get back. So far the only parts they tried to up-sell me was a front CV axle that had a bad boot. I put 100-200 miles a day on this truck and hope there are no surprises when it comes back.

I would like to thank all of you for taking time out of your day to help a fellow Tacoma owner out. I am contacting a few sources before I escalate, because I still have hope that Toyota will make it right.

However, this is my last attempt at a polite resolution. I am not the type of person who would file a lawsuit, but for the first time in my life I believe I might entertain the idea. I am a very patient man, but I refuse to roll over and play dead.

I welcome any ideas as to what steps to take if I am left in the cold again.

Does anyone know the cost of a frame? Are they hard to get?

I think Toyota cost is something like 12K for parts and labor. I remember reading in the frame rot thread, but I cannot remember exactly what it was. I do know that it is damn expensive.

Toyota recovered a large settlement from Dana who produced the defective frames. I don't remember how much it was and not sure if it was enough to cover all the costs.

Yes, thanks to a salesman at Modern in Winston-Salem and a few other Toyota employees things are looking up.

Modern Toyota contacted me and assured me that they would do everything in their power to get Toyota Corporate to stand by their product. If not, the dealer has to foot the bill which is what may happen.

I also contacted my "home" dealership who also got on the phone to Toyota as well.

I emailed Jim Lintz as advised by more than one member here.

So, the ball is in their court.

The first photo which is time-stamped before my inspection clearly shows a hole in the frame. There is no way to fake or damage the frame to mimic that sort of corrosion.

However, I would like to believe that they made an honest mistake and I believe that they will stand behind their product.

    I hope. smiley_abused_c7f775c02c9953a4175af00dc5782e648f041e8a.gif

This is the part I am not understanding about your case. My 01 was fine in 2012 when it was inspected and coated per the TSB. In December even though my frame "passed" and was coated I found a hole from rot and am now getting a new frame because the warranty covered me for 15 years.

No dealership is going to cover that on their own expense. They will do what they can to get Toyota to except your claim but none will foot everything in hopes they will be reimbursed by Toyota

Dana settle with Toyota for 25 Million on the first gen. rot issues. They claim 110,000 trucks were affected between 1995-2000
