i am not sure there is consensus out there yet on the durability of NOT just rinsing right off the hard work done to apply when one hits the DIY spray and wash in the dead of winter to hose down roadspray from ALL body panels, under the fenders, fuel tanks and skid, etc.etc, etc everywhere you can reach with the spray hose before frostbitten knuckles sets in and the timer runs out on the cycle

this will be the first winter for me to try this stuff, i have never ever heard of it before TW!
so its a wait and see if it allows me to continue my 1/4 century winter routine habit

so to use the gallon bucket with spray wand/gun you also need a blasted air compressor!?

what the heck is wrong with your truck?
now i gotta go look at mine and see if it needs sandblasted and powder coated, was gonna hold off on doing that since it looked in good shape after a wd40 wipe down in front while i was under there

roadspray doesn't get near your door panels or wheel wells
    rear bumper even?

Yeah you need to hook it to a compressor. How else would you get the gun to spray?
You could maybe use a garden pump sprayer, not sure it would have enough pressure though.

i am just concerned about operating and storage space around the place
air compressors are fairly large items on wheels?

My compressor isnt on wheels. Its pretty small, its called a pancake compressor. I use it for a lot of other stuff too. If you won't use it for other things then its probably not a good investment and you should just go with aerosol cans of fluid film

i like to buy in large quantity for the lower per item/weight average because it just makes economical sense most of the time!
If I now have to find myself to be straddled using this stuff until i die then that big drum is looking like uh you know, the best option?

maybe it can be applied with a standard paint brush?
either way its gonna be a major hardship on me and my crippled arse
my wicked knees will most likely not last into my 50s (as my Dad's did not :()

Big pita to do that. Ill spend $40 a year on 4 rattle cans of it from Napa and be happy. Also the cost of a couple tarps and some clothes I dont care about, as thats all throw away items after they get coated by overspray.

it may take me more than 4 cans?
i have not yet attempted this procedure so am not 100% sure yet
especially if it needs redone/touchup several times during the freezing winter due to wash off, etc.

how would it be any quicker?
btw, i am very very novice at all this

The coverage with a sprayer is just much faster than a brush. You can hold the trigger and aim and fire for 5 seconds and coat a whole frame rail, that would take minutes with a brush.

Wash the frame real good before applying, then do not wash it at all during the winter. A light spray off with the garden hose is fine, but not from any high pressure system.

my area we often get rapid snow melt (from one foot blizzards to well above freezing temps the next week) leading to large sloppy puddles and having to drive through and splashing all around

i see problems with that already splashing up and washing off! perhaps wheeling around the puddles off road could help i don't know :frusty:

It doesnt just wash off. Its comparable to trying to clean off grease without a degreaser. It doesnt work. Once its on, the vast majority will stay greasy. I wouldnt worry about it.

Advanced auto had an online coupon for 25% off
My credit card offers various cash back deals that have to be "loaded" onto the card. So I loaded a 10% advanced auto coupon
I have an app called ibotta that i use for online and in store shopping. They offer additional cash back. I open that app and navigate to advanced auto via the ibotta app which gave me an additional 5% cash back.
They also offered some cash back to pick up in store after ordering online.
It all ended up coming together and saving me quite a bit of money. I'm set on fluid film for years to come now. I wasnt in a rush so j was allowed to shop around to find a good deal.

I also got the 25% couple from Advance Auto. Just look up the product while logged into your account, and AA will send you an email in a couple of hours for 20%. Wait until the next day and they'll come grovelling with 25%.

So I ordered it, but while out for delivery UPS says the box was damaged. I waited a week and contacted AA asking what is going on since I hadn't heard anything. The nice lady that replied said she was shipping another one out with rush delivery and giving me a $20 credit for purchases at AA. So I think in the end I paid the equivalent of I paid $11 for my can.
