In New York with our salt use, did you have the frame treated before hand?

I live in NH. They love the salt. I spray the frame and under body with hydraulic oil once a year, than run the dirt roads. Makes a good barrier against rust. I have an 07 and no rust.

As far as treating the frame, what can be done? I didn't go for the undercoating because I've read that water can get trapped underneth it. Is there another service that sprays a rust inhibitor that someone could recommend that they've had good results with?

Get a quart of normal ATF at the autoparts store. Thin it a little using some paint thinner and place it into one of those "pump up" pressurized sprayers. get under your truck and go to town on/inside the frame and cross members.
