I did not see a thread in here for Francis Marion & Sumter National Forests, so I am making one that I hope those of us that explore them locally can update. I will try to update this main post with helpful information as I can!

Francis Marion & Sumter National forest have 4 sections depicted in the picture below.

    The sections are:
Andrew Pickens Ranger District (Northwest part of state)
Enoree Ranger District (inbetween Greenville and Columbia)
Long Cane Ranger District (western portion of state)
Francis Marion Ranger District (just north of Charleston area)

Here is a link to the MVUM (Motor Vehicle Use Map) for each section.
    https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/scnfs/maps-pubs/?cid=stelprdb5289103

Use this link to see the MVUM's on a map that you can filter for specific areas you want to go (camping, fishing, OHV, etc.)
    https://www.fs.fed.us/ivm/

I will be spending my next few trips (outside of Pisgah) to the Enoree and Anderson Pickens districts as I live in Simpsonville (near Greenville). I will share helpful waypoints and/or Gaia tracks where beneficial! Really going to be looking for good spots to get out with the RTT and camp away from others for now (maintaining that social distance but getting some fresh air).

If anyone has good experiences, fun places to check out, or helpful information about these forest areas, please post below!

I’ve been wanting info too. I’d like to hit Enoree for sure. Day trip if there is just some cool gravel roads. Not opposed to some camping spring or fall. Summer is for higher elevations if at all.

Agreed. Trying to hit Enoree before it gets to hot. Mandatory stay at home coming for Greenville though so I probably won’t get out this weekend

Enoree has a bunch of short FSR's to ride for a quick fix. Long Cane has a longer network of interconnected roads, and some offshoots that are more tricky.

I had to get drug out of this one.

I was actually down at Enoree today, just driving about 60 miles of gravel roads. Only hit probably 20-30% of what is there. Was labeling potential campsites in my Gaia app.

Most of the campsites I labeled were essentially just at the end of a short FSR road when it goes to turn around (dead end).

I just used the MVUM overlay in Gaia premium to see all the gravel roads. If you don't have that, the link I posted above with the MVUM maps will show you where all the roads are!

Plenty more exploring to do, but definitely very tame. Too tame honestly but hey, it is still the closest camping to me I believe.

If you are in Asheville, you shouldn’t be too far from Pisgah! Some great camping in there

Forgot to add pictures, but most of the potential campsites are at the end of side roads. And most of the roads so far look like the below:

There is a nice site like that off either George Branch or Lucust Rd in Kinards that is beside a fairly nice creek.

I wasn't looking for mud, either, which is probably why I ended nose down in it! Hate mud...

Btw, forgot to upload this. It’s how much I mapped out in 2 hours at an avg speed of about 20 mph. So a ton more to explore

Guess we can’t get down to ride now. Probably risk a ticket I suppose.

Let me know, or post in the Charleston SC thread, when you decide to check out Francis Marion.
