I bought a Iceco JP40 and I put it behind my back seat. I started to hear a bad sound like a bad strut or somebody hitting the bottom of my truck with a hammer. I went to investigate and found the fridge sounds like a large metal ball is loose inside. I took off the cover of the fridge and traced the sound to the compressor, like the pump is loose inside. I contacted Iceco and had them warranty it, but the new fridge has the same sound! The fridge works fine, but I was hoping for a relatively quiet fridge. Now i'm thinking about getting a ARB or Dometic instead! Do all fridges make this noise??

That's weird on both of them doing the same thing. Not faulting the brand either. that said, and not trying to sway you at all because these things are pricy.. I can hardly hear my ARB. Doesn't mean that one day it will take a dump.

Try a tie wrap on one of the compressor mounts. If the sound is simply the motor than that’s it. If it is a vibration you may be able to minimize it. It’s likely innate.

I'll try to explain better. If I were to remove the compressor, and give it a light shake, the pump will bounce against the side. And this noise is very loud inside the cab. It's at the same decibel of talking level.
The local REI has a dometic fridge. Too large for my use, but i'll go see if it makes the same sound

Yeah, Iceco sources the compressor from Secop so they are at the mercy of what they send. I think ARB uses a Secop compressor also. If you were to give the fridge a shake, does it make a knocking sound?

I assume the compressor is rubber mounted? Maybe experiment with higher / lower durometer isolation feet.

My vl45 does the same thing. I consider it to be a small price to pay for cold beer on demand.

I can tell you my amana refrigerator in my home will make's alot of fart, and popping noises all day at different times. It can sound like someone firing a .22 short in the house. Otherwise all is normal...food is kept cold and the freezer keeps stuff frozen.

Rite rite. I’ve never heard a sound out of it that I recall, even off road. Will check after work and give it a shake. Will have to remove the beers first. Currently being used as a beer cooler.

Then probably the sound is specific to Iceco. Thanks for the help! I definitely will buy a different fridge if it doesn't have this sound. I'm stubborn about having the cab relatively quiet. The sound of something rolling around the back seat or knocking is enough to bother me.

Which means, I have a new Iceco JP40 for sale for anyone who doesn't care about these type of noises lol

Gotcha. Check around with all the web sites that you can think of that sell the fridge you want, to see if you can find some kinda sale. That is exactly how I fell into my ARB after drooling over them for years. I Got that puppy at $250. off the list price.

@I_squared_r it's running at a cool 38 degrees and not a sound out of it while shaking or on any kind of angle at all. Also been running non stop for a good 8-10 months.

Registered here just reply to this thread – same issue with my Iceco JP40 in my GX460. This has been driving me nuts. At first I thought it was the basket inside the fridge, so I removed that. Then I thought it was the few millimeters of play in the Iceco slide, so I removed the fridge and drove around with the empty slide, no more rattle. So I shook the fridge around and mother-F if the thing doesn't clunk around like it's got a coconut inside. Was thinking about opening it up seeing what's up but sounds like you did the work for me and it's the compressor. Kind of a bummer as it was a large investment.

My two ARB fridges both have the clunking sound you're describing. I'm fairly certain all fridge compressors do.

I've only noticed it in my ARB's when carrying them and they "bounce" against my hip. It's exactly what you're describing.

I've also noticed it in full size and mini fridges.
