Hey I have been looking and I cant seem to find a winch that can be mounted on the front and also the back. I just figured that it would be nice to winch from the rear bumber if i need to back out of a situation. Even if the winch was a temp design so you can just plug it into the reciever hitch. And then just store it inside the truck.

You can have only one or the other without major mod's. For rear, I'd only recommend a removable hitch mount. For the front, it would normally be mounted on a bull bar style winch mount, permanently. You have to consider aesthetics as well if you want to keep your truck looking good.

The only other method I can think of is to install/weld a hitch receiver under the front bumper. This way, your winch becomes portable between front and rear.

Let me know how you solve the problem because I am very interested in having one myself. I dont want to install one permanently due to added weight and effects on gas consumption. A permanent mount will add at least 300 pounds of unnecessary feel good weight .

Ok so I looked around and I think I answered my own question. Most winches would bolt onto this winch mount that would fit into a 2" receiver. And if you wanted to have a front reciever the other link shows how that is done. So i would guess that the only thing left to do is have the truck wired with a harness for both front and rear winches.

did you end up putting on the front receiver hitch from JC Whitney? If so, I'd like to see a photo. I want to do the same thing, but I want to be able to put on a bull bar too,, maybe a skid plate. Do you think all three would be compatible?

i did not get that yet. but i found a better solution. I will have to get out the catalog that I seen it in, but they have a winch that is made for front and back. Even with handles on it to move it easier. If I get around to it I will post the name of it.

Ok I found it. I have this catalog called northern tool and equipment. They have a web site too. Its called a quick mount system. Kind of looks like the handles, roller bars, and winch are on one peice. Its a 8000 lb pull for $999.99 Its kind of the same idea I had before. But in a better package.
