I'm just curious about cost difference between States and Canada.
I paid $23 CAD, a web site said it equals $30,50 USD, for a quart of RedLine 75W90, in stores.
How much did you pay for your quart of RedLine ?
*I haven't changed it yet, but thanks for the wright up, this was essential to me, in order to do this myself, properly !
Will see how it goes, I'll post back

A quart of Red Line 75w90 here is $17-20 US. About the same as there with the current exchange rate.

I did front, rear and transfer case on my '05 Tacoma 4x4 about 3 weeks ago, mostly due to finding this thread. Truck has 66000 and is over 10 years old. First time these fluids were changed. The drain plugs on the front/rear diff were very rusty, and I reused the gaskets. I used Mobil 1 75w90 LS with its built in limited slip additive.

    My findings:

    1) After I performed the service I had seeping leaks around some of the drain/fill plugs, likely due to reusing the gaskets and probably getting some specks of rust/debris into the gasket surface. I've since purchased new drain and fill plugs for front/rear diff, and new gaskets for all 6 drain/fill holes. I've installed the new plug bolts in the rear dif along with the new gasket and torqued to the correct 36 ftlb level. I believe the seeping leak on the fill bolt is fixed. I put a bit more torque on the transfer case fill bolt (haven't replaced gasket with new one yet) and that seep is fixed. I have yet to install the new fill/drain plug and gaskets on front diff as of yet, its on my to do list next time I'm under there. Lesson: If I had it to again I'd make sure I had at least the 6 new gaskets before starting, but since my pumpkins and plugs were so rusty, I would recommend getting the new plugs as well before starting - do it once and do it right.

    2) My '05 Tacoma 4x4 SR5 has a limited slip diff in the rear with mechanical clutch plates. It began chattering around slow corners after switching to the Mobil 1 LS. I take it that it didn't have enough limited slip additive built into the Mobil 1, so I went to the Toyota dealer and got additive. They said Toyota didn't make their own and he showed me what they use - Kendall LS additive. I bought a little bottle and added it to my rear diff and the chatter is now gone. So that was another interesting lesson.

I put a thin coating of Permatex Aviation Form a Gasket Sealer on the drain and fill plugs, haven't had a leak in 40 years including my years as a heavy fleet mechanic.

I tried to get the washers no charge since I had a $150,00 bill.
    Impossible

On an another note, my alignment wasn't off by much.
But damn it, I'm so much happy now that my steering wheel is straight, almost like having a new truck.
The steering was off centered by, maybe 3/16th of an inch, but still I feel so so good.
Am I the only one like this ?

Nope, that kind of stuff drives me nuts. I would happily pay 150 for it to be centered. Mild ocd haha.

Indeed, the moral support is very welcome. :•)
That price included my tire change though, 79.49 alignment, balance is tires.
The washers she put on another bill so I have two enterings in the win a yaris contest, thank you mam !
    I'd keep it

Just curious, has anybody had a dealer quote a price to change both diffs and transfer case? Looks like it'll cost me around $85 for oil/crush washers etc. to do it myself.

$85 will cover a 5 gallon bucket and a cheap pump...

I replaced the fluid in all 3 with new crush washers for $60. The only dealer I called just out of curiosity was $225.

Looking at some of the receipts from my 4Runner, a dealership charged me $79.95 plus whatever other shop fees were added in just for the Rear Diff on it back in July. That makes me so happy it is much easier to do it myself on the Tacoma. I think my cost a little less than $80 for 6 quarts of Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W90 LS, new crush washers, and the purchase of the oil pump. Next time I do it should be less than $60 for everything. I'll put those savings toward something else I'd rather have or do.

Just did all three...cost around $90 for fluids (6qts Mobil 1 synthetic), crush washers and 10 mm hex socket...piece of cake, took about two hours.

I swear the truck runs better now, maybe it's my imagination. Fluids were pretty trashed. This was first change after 49,000 miles. Definitely needed it.

I only did the rear diff today but my trouble could be helpful here also, I think.
    My pump 163ed065123e3a1495779569233f883b_b11a720ce038995510168d5ff96dd2b96dce16bd.jpg
Takes somewhere around 150 to 200 pumps for 1 quart, and you have to give it the time to fill back up between each pump.
My arm hurt after one quart, so I drilled a 5/16th hole in the original cap from the bottle, warmed the cap in boiling water, and sliped a 5/16th gas line, with a 7/16th outer diameter. Far enough to reach the bottom of the bottle, and let it cool.

It took me 4 bottle squeeze to empty it with 2 at the end with air to empty almost everything.

Aside from that, it went very well !

Good to know for next time. I bought a cheap penzoil pump at walmart while I was there and it leaked like a mo fo. I quickly hit the f it stage and just let it leak all over my hands while I pumped it in and threw it away when I was done. Luckily I bought a little extra oil.

For about $30 at Napa or northern tool you can get a lever action pump that fits on a five gallon pail, about 4 ounces a stroke.

So did mine, the filling tube had a loose zip tie on the pumps nozzle, oil leaked, and air sipped thru, pumping air.
Added 2 more zip ties, pumped great but took forever. I may have exaggerated with the 200 pumps, I stop counting at 60, or forgot where my counting was around 60, and had about half of the quart in.
Finished the quart and made a ceremony whilst the said pump burned in a joyous fire !
*didn't really burn plastic, it lays to rest at Jiffy Lube with my old oils

I too underestimated the importance of using a quality pump. The $10 one I used didn't really leak but it seemed to take forever.

That sounds like overkill...do you off road a lot? What condition is the fluid in after such short intervals?

In my case, after 49,000 miles my transfer case fluid looked almost new, but both diffs were trashed.
