    Hello TW,

I currently have all the parts to do the rear-diff breather mod, so I am set for getting that done this weekend. My question is where are the breathers located for the front diff, transmission and transfer case? I am getting tons of varied answers while searching on TW, so I figured I would post the questions here.

    Thank you in advance.

I keep hearing that the front diff already has a breather by the battery but cannot find it.
Got an ARB breather kit cheap so just need to install it. Would love to know where each part is.

Those ARB kits seem pretty slick, the breather tubes will be tucked on the lower wheelwell, look for the metal caps.

I thought all the breathers were just on the tops of each?

They are pretty nice kits, allows for 4 breathers and comes with a bunch of tubing, for the $75CAD I got it for can't go wrong.
Just need to install it and not sure if I need new connectors on each diff/transfer/trans to attach the tubing.

When you say "breather tubes", are you saying that the front diff, transfer case and transmission all are routed to the lower wheel well location?

    Thank you.

Two breathers can be found in the engine bay on the driver's side. They're just little metal caps on the end of hoses. The best info I've found indicates these are for the front diff and the transmission. The transfer case apparently has a breather hose on it routed somewhere. I really searched online, here on TW and elsewhere and this is the best I came up with.

The rear diff has a pressure relief valve right on it. It is not a breather.

Some people will swear no one ever had a problem due to no rear diff breather. Others say they or their cousin's friend's neighbor's diff was ruined because it needed one. Many, like me, figure it's an easy fix, so why not? I put mine behind the taillight easy as pie.

I have the ARB kit for my rear diff and do seem to remember seeing the other two mentioned breathers in the engine bay while I was routing the ARB line. I, too, am also looking to determine if those two are for both the front diff, transmission and transfer case. I seem to remember someone mentioning that the transfer case and transmission breather terminate at the same line. Hope to get some clarification on this...might have to take my skids off and do some investigative work this weekend.

Would also love some detailed information on breathers for various components. Are we fine for light wheeling but submerging differential stock or should everyone do this mod? Thanks!

Just finished my ARB Breather kit install 16 Tacoma off road. Still don't know where the transfer case Breather is. I was told it splits and connects the the transmission line. I have the front, rear and transmission connected. Let me know if you find info on the location of the transfer case breather. No one knows or just links to 2nd Gen diagrams and DIY's.

Transfer case breather is on top. U have to use a mirror to see it. I'm just gonna tap into the 2 breather hoses that come up to the battery and then goto the breather. You can feel it but in no way are u able to get anything up there to remove and add ur own adapter or hose.

On top???? On top of the transfer case? I know the breather comes out from the top of it, but where does it go? Is there no line?

Good news I found the two breathers for the transfer case and the transmission breather. The two up by the battery is for the front diff only. The white cap is the transmission breather and the 2 silver ones are the transfer case.

Super good investigative work sir! So if I am following this correctly... The two silver breathers in your original post are for the front differential. The white capped one and the two other silver ones account for the transmission and the transfer case? For the Tcase and the Transmission, where do these breathers live exactly?

I hate when people just give false info or bullshit links to 2nd gens and DIYs that have nothing to do with 3rd gens. Let me know if that helped everyone out
