I had the same issue a creaking sound when the body would rock. I removed the crash bar and put washers between it and the frame and the noise went away. 2 weeks later it's back again, even had the whole suspension checked and nothing is loose. At this point I think I'm done taking the front end apart, it seems like so many people have issues with these trucks making noise.

Tried standing and rocking in the door sill today to see if I could pinpoint the clunking on the front driver's side. I noticed that the bolt, washer and rubber bushing on the shaft of the strut was moving! I tried tightening it down with a wrench, but the shaft in the coil just spins... The amount of threads on the driver's side compared to the passenger side is drastically different, as seen in the photos. Maybe the valving is just worn on this particular strut? Or maybe there is another way to tighten this down? There is fluid around the boot on this particular strut, so maybe it's just time for replacement?

First photo is the strut in question that has movement

Second photo (more red in the photo) is the strut that doesn't have any issues

Any help would be much appreciated!

Clamp and hold the top of the bolt with visegrips then tighten the nut with a wrench

I had the clunk and ping over speed bumps. Dealer replaced front frame bushings. Made the front quieter. I replaced the shocks with a TRD shocks and its totally quiet.

Well, I bought the KYB Gas-A-Just set from shock surplus. Truck has 140k on the clock and I'd like the peace of mind knowing that everything is good suspension wise, so I figured I will just replace the system.

I thought about doing leaf springs as well, but not sure if that is necessary...

Will post photos and thoughts once I get them installed.

So, I recently had issues with a mysterious click noise coming from my front end and it was mostly when i turned left at slow speed or maneuvering in and out of park spots or stopping at light or going over speed bumps or things in general…..

Comes to find out both my sway bar end links were shot and had a lot of play in them and ended up needing replacing… probably solved and it sounds like a new truck now.

Sometimes the stock engine splash guard aka "skid" will flex and move and cause a metallic clunk

It's super flimsy and flexes around

Glad I found this thread right away. Occasionally/intermittently, I hear a sharp rap sound that can be felt in the floor board as well from the left front. It's usually at 30-40 km/h going over speed bumps, seemingly when the suspension reaches full compression. That lubing the coil spring trick seems like a good idea. On the hoist, I couldn't find anything loose or amiss. Note: Toyota 4WD truck brake pads and metal undercovers rattle thus those noises don't concern me.

To me, it looks like the strut isn’t tightened to the hat. Look at the bushing compression on the passenger side. Then look at the driver and the lack of compression. The length of exposed thread is also a sign.
There is actually a tool for this which prevents distortion that may keep the nut from being removable.
