I’ve tried searching the forums but have not found a whole lot. Have any unfortunate folk like me who are also required to display a front license plate come up with anything better than the stock Toyota black plastic ‘shoebox’? There’s just gotta be a better way! I’d love to see an aftermarket manufacturer offer something in aluminum etc, that doesn’t ruin the approach angle, or the look of the truck.

Pop rivet it to the bumper cover.

Some people have used some 1” flat aluminum to bend up some floating brackets.

Not worth the fix it ticket here in California, I've had 2 doing that.

Aesthetics not withstanding does anyone know if placing your front plate inside your cab against the front windshield legal in CA?

Lets face it, the only way a front tag will look good is if it's a cool looking tag and Jersey's suck.

I guess it could be argued in court (why would it be worth even going in?) that you did have the license plate facing "the front" of the car... or just tell the cop that wanted to have a "PC" reason to pull you over by giving you a fix it ticket that you just have it in the window "temporarily" because you don't have a mount for it. I've been pulled over twice when I was younger for not having mine posted, one cop even pulled a hazardous fast U-turn in traffic for it, so I gave up trying for asthetics as it wasn't worth the hassle. Here's what the law says:

"Vehicles registered in California must display valid license plates as evidence of current registration. Passenger vehicles display two license plates -- one plate on the front of the car and one plate on the back of the car."

No it is not...to paraphrase the California vehicle code it has to be securely attached to the front of the vehicle...and I agree the stock holder is funky

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!

You could do like they do in my state --Just ignore the law and run without any front plates. I used to sort of do a "unofficial tally" on what kinds of vehicles were doing this . What I noticed was that they were in TWO categories: 1. the people that have very high end cars --Corvettes Porsches BMW's and other exotics. These scalawags think they are too good and their cars are too nice to bother with front plates.
    2. A lot of old junkers and other assorted "ghettomobiles" where people took one plate and placed it on one vehicle and the other plate on another (illegally of course). This is a very common occurence in Missouri's larger cities. This is very common according to my ex employer MSHP

Steve Jobs used to just lease a new vehicle every 6 months here in California to avoid putting on any plate, but the 6-month loophole has been closed- dealers will be issuing temporary plates with each sale that have to be attached the day of the sale starting in 2019.

Face it friends -- double plates are there for one reason -- Easier for law enforcement to ID you. That's it--no other reason--period! I really doubt it helps the income of the penitentiary inmates that much-- that's where ours are made in Mo.

Screw it to the bumper without the holder, nice and easy.
