All the red light cameras in our area take pictures from the rear, not the front. Front LP is to ID cars involved in crimes. The get left at the scene of hit and runs and show up on business cameras quite frequently.

    Too few to list.
The rear plates have a minimum height requirement of no lower than 12" but the front plates requirement only states no higher than 60" but you must have both, visible and easily readable. So putting it behind your bumper cover falls into obstruction. You can't cover pass the sticker tabs. So either just place it where it's suppose to go or just not have one at all.

BTW, red light camera's not only take pictures from the back, it also takes one from the front across the street and not only that it takes pictures but a video as well.

If it is just from the rear then there are no worries of getting a ticket. The beauty of Innocent until proven Guilty. Just fight the ticket if all they have is a picture of your plate and say "My buddy and I were switching off driving, so which one of us was driving when the violation occured?"

yea in california they are legally required to have a picture of the person driving

i ran a light in a friends subaru i was using and they asked who was driving and she told em to kick rocks cause it was the camera company and not the court.

    (2) The installation of a license plate security cover is not a violation of this subdivision if the device does not obstruct or impair the recognition of the license plate information, including, but not limited to, the issuing state, license plate number, and registration tabs, and the cover is limited to the area directly over the top of the registration tabs. No portion of a license plate security cover shall rest over the license plate number.

My reading of that is they would have to be able to see the California portion of the plate.

In Calfornia, there is no stipulation that it has to be mounted at the front of the vehicle. It just has to be readable and secured to the vehicle in a readable fashion.

    http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=veh&group=05001-06000&file=5200-5206

5201. License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates from swinging, shall be mounted in a position so as to be clearly visible, and so that the characters are upright and display from left to right, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible.

Interesting. My understanding from people I've known who ran them was that if the driver was not you, you had to provide the name of the person who was driving otherwise the ticket was yours.

I don't understand what you're saying in the last part "it was the camera company and not the court."

In MA. you can't even have a plate frame anymore, if it blocks any part of the state name or state logo. :turtleride:

That is a illegal display of the plate you will get a ticket if the cop is having a bad day or a fix it ticket. You can also receive a ticket if you park on public roads with the plate displayed like that. I have seenthis first hand trust me:eek:

Well I finally got something together and have it mounted. I made (or "grew") some adjustable mounts out of polycarbonate that would allow me to test different heights. I settled on the second lowest setting.

Just shows the numbers...I like it....it'll do the job for my comfort; showing the plate and not messing with the look. I did try the lower setting but it wasn't as clean.

I'm planning on maybe joining some TW peeps this weekend on some trails....might have to remove it for these occasions ;) Although the tow loop is close to flush with the height of the bottom of the license plate, so maybe not a bottoming issue?....hmmm

Made a bracket utilizing the two down-facing holes on the frame just behind the bumper cover. Never get a hard time about it in our ball-busting state.
