There are two number floating around for that Dodge bracket:

55-1864
55-1862

I've read somewhere else that 55-1864 is the wrong one for our Tacomas. Anyone know which one actually fits correctly??

I'm in California, The DMV doesn't send me tags for the front plate?
When has tags on the front been Law? They only send tags for my rear plate.
Cheers

By tag I meant license plate not the sticker, they only require the sticker on the rear.

I finally got around to doing this. I also checked ebay, got a genuine Mopar part for $34. I'm very happy with it and glad I did it. I only wish I had done it sooner. The bumper took a beating under the plate and some of the paint is scatched. Overall it looks better and doesn't hang down as much as I thought it would.
I'll post pictures another time.

I'm required to have one in VA, but I took it off a while ago for the cleaner look. :anonymous:

I'm putting it back on once I get my Demello though, so I don't have any run-ins with Johnny Law. I'm going to be using a little bracket from Advance Auto. (Zip tying the bracket to the "DO" on the upper front, then screwing the plate onto the bracket) Got the idea from Joneill03.

Also, I'm not sure if this bracket will fit into the stock holes on the bumper (if you have them), but it's worth a shot. Pretty cheap at Advance Auto.

Below I have a "before and after", since installing the Dodge plate bracket.

You can see where the plate messed up the paint on the bumper. I was going to put painted plugs in the holes, but since there was some damage, I decided to experiment. I flattened out the holes and filled them with paintable, flexible, window caulk, then used touch-up paint. Its holding up pretty well and looks decent... considering.

I have this and it doesn't quite fit the holes... you can make it fit, but it makes me nervous... does a good job of separating the plate from the bumper, but I'm going with the plugs & bracket method soon.

How does the dodge bracket attach? Self tapping screws into the bumper? Thanks :)

It came with exterior, sheet metal screws. There are 4 holes under where the plate fastens that are used to secure it to the truck. The contour of the bracket is quite close to our bumpers, so it sits pretty flush. I used a dremel and a file to file tune the fit and pre-drilled the holes.

So do the screws go into the metal bumper, or just the plastic cover? Did you get just the bracket, or the whole mounting kit? Thanks!

I was pissed that the dealer put 2 holes in my bumper and there wasn't even a bracket for the plated so I remedied this by buying a bracket from the ford place and after some cutting and sanding the bracket looks factory I will try and get a pic for all to see.

Glad I live in a state that doesn't require a front tag.

I think without a front plate looks cleaner, I thought about taking mine off but there would be holes in the bumper and I just cant have that. I'd risk getting a fix it ticket also.:D

Same here. When I bought my truck, I was hoping it would take long to get the plates so I could enjoy the clean front bumper a little longer. I got the plates within a few weeks of my purchase, so I threw them in the glove box and ran the temp paper ones for awhile :D

So which Dodge part number did you use?

Edit, answered my own question.

For future reference

55-1862 is plate only $29.95
55-1864 is the kit with fasteners $49.95
WTF, $20 extra for fasteners?
