Ok I have been battling a intermittent. Clunk in my front end for 9 months and have put over $2000 in parts in it. Went out of town and had a different mechanic work on it. He was bound and determined to find it. And he did...it turned out to be. The sway bar bushings and end links.

So mine makes the same noise over speed bumps. It also does it when you stop and go back a little than hit the brake and than it will do it forward
if you do the same thing, like backing in to your driveway than when you stop backing up it clinks, if you go forward again it will clink when you
apply the brakes. We had it in the shop yesterday trying to figure it out. All bushings etc.. look good. Very annoying!!!
Was thinking of changing shocks to the Bilstein 5100's? Do I need anything besides the shocks? I see some people saying that has helped.
    Thanks

I changed my shocks too. One thing I am going to do is see if there is any linkage connected to the actual brake pedal that may require bushings and check the brake caliper and rotor for sticking. I have heard that this also causes a clunk noise. When you apply the brakes and the weight of the car lunges forward and then you come to the actual stop and the cars weight lunges back. This is not a gradual braking.

Brake pad slap. Take a look at the double spring mod for your brake calipers. Don't replace your shocks, it's just a waste of money.

Knock on wood. Replaced the front pads with wagner heavy duty pads. The slow back and forward clunk is gone.
I also replaced the front shocks with the Bilstein's. I like the ride, a little firmer. Haven't gone over any speed bumps to check that clunk yet.

Have gone over several speed bumps etc.. and that clunk is gone as well.
    Hopefully all fixed!
