So I took my super badass triple throwdown truck to the tint shop yesterday to get my fronts to match my rears. Surprise to me the rear windows were alot darker than I thought. I have not tinted the rears and in order to match the rear I had to remove the tint from the front and go with 5%. Seems dark, and it is but I drove at night and it ain't that bad I could see pretty good. Its not legal of course but it looks great!!! Im trying to add pics but it keeps saying error on page, Ill keep trying and have them on here soon

some of this, a little of that
I also had my front windows tinted to match the rears but mine don't seem quite as dark as yours, don't know if it just the angle of the pic on mine. oh well they still look cool

no such animal, they only make security film and that wont keep the window from breaking, it will only keep the glass from falling apart. If your rear windows measured 6.1 they also have a aftermarket tint on them.in the majority of states your are allowed to make the rear doors that dark, but not the front doors

Ok, I'm confused by the %s given in this post. This is the Texas law regarding tint - how do these numbers match up to the 6.1 and 5%?? Wouldn't this indicate I can have up to a 25% tint?

    Texas Window Tint Law

    Texas Tint Law Enacted: 2003
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN TEXAS?
Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%).
In Texas, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through
the combination of film and the window. WindshieldNon-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side WindowsMust allow more than 25% of light in.
Back Side WindowsMust allow more than 25% of light in.
Rear WindowAny darkness can be used.

HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE IN TEXAS?
Similar to sunglass lenses, some tinting film contain metallic elements
that help in reflecting incoming light and reducing the glare and heat generated by visible light.
Front Side WindowsMust not be more than 25% reflective.
Back Side WindowsMust not be more than 25% reflective.

6.1 percent is a layer of 20%tint laid over factory tinted glass making6.1%dark on the meter.5% is the majority of film manufactures darkness of there limo tint.when you put a piece of film on any auto glass it is going to drop the percentage of darkness that the film is going to be.every state has different laws,so when you put a piece of 35% film on a window combined with the factory tint it bring it down to around 32% on a meter

Well, when it says it must allow more than 25% light in, to me, that means it can block 74% and still be legal - is that right?

So where does that 6.1% figure come in? I don't see the relation, unless the device they test with reads differently.

    oil change...
6.1% would be how much light is passing through the window.

I took the truck by a place here that I've done business before and they said it'd be about $106 (w/ tax) to tint the front windows in my truck.

Does this sound like a good deal?

Like I said, I've dealt with these guys before and I trust their work. I've never had just two windows tinted, though, so I don't know how much it should cost. (Every other car has had 5 windows tinted, so I paid a good bit more than $100.)

    Thanks!
