So I washed my truck yesterday, cuz it was almost white with salt residue. Brought it back home, parked it up, pulled up the e-brake. Came out this morning to go to work, the temp is around 20, and the truck looks like a popsicle. I start it up, clear out the ice on the glass. When I go to drive, I put in the clutch, push in 1st, release the e-brake and go to drive off and it's not moving. I give it a little more gas and then I feel like something release and I hear a sound like two things ripping apart suddenly. Drove it and everything feels and sounds normal. Was my e-brake frozen? Anyone else had this happen to them?

Well, when things get wet and it’s below 32 degrees things will freeze together. There’s a video somewhere on here of someone having the same problem. And them putting their truck into 4hi to get out of their driveway

Happens in our fire trucks all the time. hence why we don't use the parking brake in the winter when parking for a significant amount of time(if possible). If they freeze/stick normally you can pop it in reverse and give it a little gas to break them loose.

    Most likely

Several threads on same. Some claim to have to use 4WD to break it loose

Ok just checked it to make sure that nothing is broken. I put in in neutral on a slight decline then let it roll, then pulled the ebrake and it engaged fine. I also put it in neutral, then partially engaged the ebrake, pumped the brakes and the brakes seemed to release for a sec, rolled for an split sec then then engaged again. This normal?

Is the ebrake using the rear rotors in Tacomas? Do drums still have the reverse auto-adjustment function?

The sudden release couldda funked up the adjustment, and if both of the above are true, may be able to fix it by giving it a nice hard stop while reversing a couple times.

Hard to determine the amount of pressure applied or how it would respond if its "partially engaged". Does it hold and release when fully engaged or disengaged? If so then that is normal.

Yes holds when fully engaged, released when fully disengaged.

and they don't adjust (the drums) by stopping while in reverse. They adjust by using the e-brake, except when they are frozen....DOH!

But then, come spring, there will be two threads per day about frozen (corroded) e brake cables.

If folks are not going to use the e brake through winter, I would recommend shooting something into the cable sheath. I know this stuff is amazing on my motorcycles and bicycles:

    https://www.amazon.com/Protect-All-Cable-Life-Motorcycles/dp/B0022UOYTE

I haven't done it yet, but I have been meaning to get in there and see what is possible to spray into the cable sheaths.

Meh, I always use my park brake - because M/T. After washing my truck (winter or summer), I always go for a drive before parking it. Never had a problem in three years of ownership.

Take it or leave it :notsure:

I'm not confident that folks would chock their wheels?
