To give you an accurate answer I will need a few bits of info from you. Do you have the stock skid plate, the Toyota accessory skid plate or an aftermarket skid plate?

The quicker, more general answer is that if you have the stock skid plate you will not have to remove it. If you have the Toyota accessory skid plate I offer two brackets that will fit. One requires removing the two font mounting bolts but not the skid plate and the other would require skid plate removal. And if you have an aftermarket skid plate then you will need to remove it to install the bracket.

I am not familiar with the removal process for an aftermarket skid plate but the Toyota accessory skid plate I have removed and it is fairly simple and quick.

Well, check out the LONG response below that I send to customers with the Toyota accessory skid plate to help them decide which bracket to buy. And I can understand not wanting to remove the skid plate but it really isn’t too bad. When I was developing the prototype for the LM-1215 I had to take off and put mine on quite a few times and it takes only about an extra 5-10 minutes. And if you did decide to go with the LM-1215-SP then you would only need to loosen the front two mounting bolts and then slide the bracket in. Anyways, here is the info if you want to sift through it.

Since your Tacoma has the Toyota accessory skid plate then both the LM-1215 and the LM-1215-SP will fit. Here are the differences between the two so you can make an informed choice.

The LM-1215-SP will work with the Toyota accessory skid plate and nothing else. You should choose this model if you are currently running the that skid plate and plan on running the skid plate forever without ever taking off the skid plate. It has a slightly cleaner, more concealed design then the LM-1215 and is just a bit easier to install as you do not need to remove the entire accessory skid plate to mount the LM-1215-SP.

The LM-1215 will work either with or without the accessory skid plate. It is necessary to remove the Toyota accessory skid plate to install it but once installed it will look essentially identical to the LM-1215-SP and it can be used without the Toyota accessory skid plate or with quite a few of the other aftermarket skid plates should you ever decide that you wanted change your skid plate. You should choose the LM-1215 if there is a chance in the future that you might want to either remove the Toyota accessory skid plate or switch to an aftermarket model or if you are unsure if you will run the Toyota accessory skid plate forever.

I mention this only because I had a customer who purchased the LM-1215-SP, used it for about a year then decided to put on a whole aftermarket skid plate set-up. The Toyota accessory skid plate would not fit with the rest of the system he was installing and the LM-1215-SP would not work with his new aftermarket skid plate so he had to buy the LM-1215 and sold the LM-1215-SP on Tacoma World in the marketplace.

Yes, although I do ask you to pick up the extra cost of shipping which is typically between $5 and $15, depending on where it is being shipped to and which bracket you choose as one bracket takes a much smaller box. If this is something you are interested in purchasing then it is probably time to start a conversation to work out the final details.

    Installed mine today. LOVE IT.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

I however did not like the holes in the bumper that were left.
After considering many options I went looking for these and I found them at O'Reilly Auto Parts.
10mm LED lights. Just had to make the holes a little bigger and mount these in.
So that was my solution to the holes. Hope it helps someone who is looking for something different.

@ACEkraut Glad to see this is an option and still being made by you!!! I'm hoping to pick up a 2011 this May if the original owner still decides to sell. It doesn't have holes in the front bumper and I would have to run a front plate. I see and have read that it only utilizes the top to hole mounts in the tag. I normally run a tinted tag cover with a stainless plate frame around it. Do you know if this will work on your bracket? If I do get the truck, we can definitely discuss something at that time as far as options for tweaking the design with me covering cost of course. Just wasn't sure if anyone has tried it before or at least with a bubble tag cover on top of it.

    Thanks

Other customers have used the brackets as shipped currently to mount a frame around their license plate so I am sure it can be done. It will require longer screws to hold everything together and it may be necessary to use a screw and nut for the bottom two holes in the plate so everything is held together nicely. I had a customer who requested a much firmer mounting solution for his plate so I built an addition to the normal bracket in order to complete his request. I could duplicate that bracket but it is really requires quite a bit of time to make the additional parts of the bracket and it would probably almost double the cost of the bracket. I could also fabricate a simpler solution that was not quite as strong but would still work for a little bit more and if you wanted to go that route we could give it a go. It would involve using a couple straight pieces of aluminum flat bar to provide a place for the bottom of the plate to mount. You would have to source longer screws to mount everything together as the screws that I have are only 1/4 inch in length and I do not stock any additional sizes. If this is something you might want to pursue then please let me know and we can switch to a conversation in order to work out all of the details. It would also probably take me a few extra days to fabricate what I needed, send you pictures for approval, etc. Just a little extra time to go through the extra process for the fabrication of a one off.

Yell if you have any questions and if you want to proceed.
