Hey all, new to driving a Tacoma, got a couple basic questions for you guys. First what octane fuel do you run in them, and do you run fuel additives and is so what brand. thanks.

    Any octane.
No additives. Why? Do you live in a 3rd world country?

If you live at a high altitude then 85 is good. If you live anywhere else in North America then any octane is good and nothing else.

91 in both Tacomas. One has F/I and requires the use of 91 octane gasoline, whereas the other is N/A and doesn't. However, it's just easier to remember for multiple drivers to use 91 in both.

I tend to classify the fuel additives you buy at your local auto store tend as either snake oil or functionally useless, particularly octane boosters, IMHO.

As long as you use the minimum octane specified by the vehicle manufacturer, you're good. If you use a higher octane, that's your choice and anyone who faults or is critical of your decision can go pound sand.

I try and use only E-Free 87, but I always use 87 regardless.

Costco or cash only self service regular. Experimented with a few tanks of 91 octane but did not see any difference. I put a bottle of injector cleaner in the gas once a year.

Your truck will run fine on 87, but per the manual it's best to stick with Top Tier fuels as most of them will contain a small amount of additives to help keep things clean.

In my experience, the truck runs smoother and quieter on premium so I run nothing but Shell VPower 93 in my truck. Not necessary but it does make a difference in the smoothness of the truck. Many can refute whether you get more power and whatnot but what can't be refuted is my driving experience which is more enjoyable when I run premium.

Doesn't your owner's manual have recommendations on that?

87, closest gas station, no additives - consistently get mid 22's to low 24's in summer. Just drive
