Former diagnostics mechanic here and I'll echo everyone and say 87/89 (regular wherever you are). Third party additives are bullshit and even things like fuel injection cleaning from your local shop will only help in about 1% of cases (actual fuel injection cleaning requires removal and a specialized machine). It's better to just run top-tier gas from Chevron, Shell, etc. who use cleaning additives to prevent carbon build-up on the tips (moreso with these direct injection engines) but "clogged" injectors mean you have been using shit fuel in a third world country and no amount of injector cleaner is going to break down debris to fit through the opening which is literally measured in micrometers (thousandths of a mm).

The computer systems are not tuned to take advantage of 91/93 octane so there will be no benefit to running a higher octane unless you have serious issues with your truck that cause pinging with regular. The octane of your gas is the least of your worries at that point.

If you must use an additive once a year for peace of mind at least get something that works. That would be Techron concentrate and completely unnecessary if you use chevron gas that has techron in it already.

I use regular 87 and about every oil change (10k) I put a bottle of sea foam fuel cleaner. This is because I use the NEX (Navy Exchange) gas, which is cheaper and I don't know the quality of it. I wouldn't bother if I was using Chevron/shell etc. regularly.

Not much love for 89 on here. I use 89 most of the time. I actually get better mileage and performance out of it than a tank of 87. However, I don't see any difference with the 91 vs. the 89.

I run 87 from Cirkle K or Quick Trip. Every 10-15k miles I throw a can of 44K in it. I have had vehicles in the past that were missing and the 44k cleaned it up every time.

What kind of fuel are you guys using? Grade, Brand, what about additives. Can you really tell a difference? Thanks.

Marathon 89 seems to be the best for mine. Definitely runs better than on 87. I haven’t tried 93.

87 - any "decent" looking gas station - not brand loyal. Truck runs great ~34,2xx mi and running perfect. Never understood what folks get caught up in brands?

Bingo. Avoid the hole in the wall looking stations that have low business flow. I've learned this from the tankers who fuel up at stations. Busy stations tend to buy better grade.

Good advice, but the real reason to avoid is stale gas and tanks that may not be as well maintained (contaminants).

Another note to add about contamination, a tanker also gave me the advice if you see them filling the tanks, contaminates get stirred up.

Ive pulled many fuel tanks over the years, a lot of GM fuel pump jobs. One may think there's more junk in the tank than you think, it's not all that bad, and most is settled on the bottom of the tank.

Aren’t there fuel filters on the station pumps... agree with stale fuel being an issue at the out of the way stations, but usually not in the city environments.
