Owned my Tacoma a few months now and methodically working through the fluids, tune up, cleaning etc. I got to changing out the fuel filter and found the first poorly designed location I have ever seen. A fuel filter on the side of the engine block??? This should be a simple task IF you can get to it. I managed to get it done but not without some pain. Going through the fender well helped but it still took me almost 2 hours on a simple job that should have taken 15 minutes on most any other truck with the fuel filter located on the frame like it should be. I see now why the previous owner only had one bolt in the top of the bracket. I did get the other one in like it should be but it took some work. Love the Tacoma but this goes to show that even Toyota can hire a bonehead engineer that thought this was a good design.

    Just sharing my pain.

At least the 3.4L filter is on the frame rail
