    I went to Toyota today to buy a fuel filter for my '01 V6 4x4 Taco, they had to order one, not a big deal. But the price was $35. I'm thinking this is a bit steep.
    At RockAuto:
    * Motorcraft FG1099 is $4.58
    * Pronto PF4790 is $4.60
    * Mahle KL924 is $6.29
    * Mann MF1016 is $9.14
    * Wix 33917 (W/ Bracket) is $14.72
    * Wix 33319 (no bracket) is $16.51
    * Beck/Arnley 0430920 is $16.80
    * Fram G6680 is $18.35
    * ACDelco GF656 @ $20.79.

    It looks like from Chris4x4's review of the oil filters, the OEM was superior to the rest. Is there a parallel to fuel filters? Are the OEM ones really that much better to warrant $35

    Thanks

    **Updated: 01.17.12**

    So I went with the Toyota OEM filter, #23300-62010, that I ordered originally.
    This is what I got for $35.43 + tax:
    [IMG]

    Even with a shinny new bracket, not that I needed one. Edit..perhaps I could use one. Just noticed I was missing a bolt.

    The little blue and silver sticker says Denso.

    I havent ever taken apart fuel filters to check, but I use the cheap ones from NAPA, or the like. 35 bucks is too steep for my blood.

    IIRC, I got my filter from power toyota for $12 ish. $35 is definitely a rip off.

    I know it was already said, but it's a good excuse to post after Chris 4x4. lol

    I understood the whole thread to be fuel filter-related.

    He was simply referencing the oil fiter comparison Chris did, and asking whether the conclusion there (that OEM is best) is applicable to fuel filters too.

    I was asking if the OEM fuel filters were worth the cost over the alternatives. At $35 from the local dealer, granted in the middle of nowhere, it seemed much more than I wanted to spend.

    Called a dealer here in Orange County, Ca, they wanted $56.00 plu tax for the fuel filter. Good I found this thread was going to pick one up from the dealer, now will check around a bit more before I purchase one.

    I believe mine was around $15-20 my cost. I would just get a Toyota filter, but I like to keep most stuff OEM since I know parts for Tacomas last

    I ordered a fuel filter from toyotpartsbarn, but they emailed me and said the one i ordered is in the gas tank, and if it was the one I really wanted. To be honest i'm not sure. I'm guessing the one that everyone always talks about changing is not the one in the gas tank, but is the gas tank one capable of being changed easily with a regular set of tools? If so i'll get both. Especially since i ran my tank dry the other week and i bet i forced some junk into the gas tank fuel filter.

    this is the one i ordered that drew a red flag from toyotapartsbarn. number 19 on the diagram https://www.toyotapartsbarn.com/toyota-oem-parts.html

    Here is the one that most people refer to, its located (on my '01 v6) under the chassis on driver's side, right below the driver actually.

    anyone know anything about the fuel filter in the gas tank? Is it literally inside the gas tank, or is it just leading into the gas tank? hard to tell from the diagram.
