fuel gauge problem

I have an 06 taco and it runs out of gas with a quarter tank still showing on my gauge. Has anybody else ran into this problem ?

 

My 08 did same thing...Time for a new fuel guage sending unit

 

The sending unit is part of the Fuel Pump / Filter / Gauge sending unit inside the tank. You can replace just the sending unit ( float assembly ). It is a plugin part to the Fuel Pump Assembly.

 

Thanks guys. I priced the float at $70, and can get it installed for $100. just wanted to know if any one else had run into this same problem.

 

Too bad they don't make Valvoline Max Life fuel system cleaner anymore. I had a Volvo XC70 with the same problem but the gauge stopped at 1/2 tank. This stuff said "Fuel gauge not working?" right on the label. I used one bottle as directed and the fuel gauge started working properly and I never had a problem with it again. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the stuff anywhere since then.

 

There is this fuel additive called sea foam. I've heard its pretty good stuff.

 

My 09 did something like this. Got stuck at 1/4 tank, then on my way to work it bombed to E and died 4.7 miles later. I got it to coast until I was across the road from the gas station. Unfortunately couldn't make it in. I never ran it to 1/4 after that so who knows if it was going to do it again.

 

Sometimes a boogy gets caught on the contacts too...be sure to clean them well while you have it apart, especially if you use cheap gas.

 

Praise God you can get the sending unit separately. The fuel pump is $600. WOW
