Anybody have info on troubleshooting a failed fuel gauge in a 2nd gen?

Gauge was working fine before filling up this AM. Level was just over 1/4 tank. Shortly after fillup, I was driving and noticed the gauge is below E and low fuel light is on. Been that way ever since. I'm not sure whether the gauge ever indicated full after the fillup.

Is there a place to access the wires to measure resistance of the sending unit without dropping the tank or removing the cluster?

It seems to be wired straight back to the combination meter. The connector is ID2 Pins # 2 and # 5. The I stands for "Instrument Cluster Area" and the D2 is the "Connector Number".

This is the connector you need to look for[ID2] and the wire colors will be Orange and Yellow with a Black Stripe.

Perfect, that's exactly what I was looking for. From what I can tell, the sending unit resistance should be around 5 ohms at F and 110 ohms at E.
