Unfortunately,on my 4cyl 06,2wd the guage had been reading incorrectly .an even got stuck in the middle a few times.I tried a few things in tank but it's still not reading correctly .I'll likely put a new pump in but wanted to know if I need to look at the cluster or guage there an check it.
An do I need to test any wiring at pump..?
    Thanks

Thanks much,The float contacts looked very worn an upon testing were not too secure..I put in a replacement pump an it looks to be working.I need to give it a run

.I did want to know ,should these 3 little rubber pieces on the bottom of the new one be removed or left on..?
An are the newer pumps a tad smaller on the inside container?
    Thanks

I have no idea on the caps.
But what brand pump did you go with?

Going off looks, the quality looks BAD.
Look at the hose loom all frayed out. And the contacts the sending unit are TINY and exposed.
Even the pump rods. Only on has a spring. Where the old one has 2. I'm less than impressed with the new one.

But who knows, it might last loner than the OEM.

    What brand?
I'll see if I can find some instructions.
It might say about the caps.

I know the last one I did on a Chevy Tahoe had instructions.
And a new pigtail you had to "rewire". Of course, it was an aftermarket pump.

Original didn't have any rubber at bottom.
Is there suction thru the bottom at all?

Unfortunately, even with a new pump it did the same thing..was a bit over the 1/4 mark an died on me...put gas in an it ran ..
What should I look at the needle in dash ? Or is it something to do with pressure?

Pic was after it died..an then when 8 gallons added ..Looks like it is 8 gallons on gauge reading but definitely not from 1st reading over a quarter of a tank( though empty /engine died for lack of fuel )

Is the stepper motor the culprit?

    Dash rebuild needed?

My fuel gauge does the same. Before purchasing the truck the previous owner warned me about the fuel gauge. She said "if it reads half a quart, you're running on empty"

It's been on my list of things to fix on the truck. Good luck and hope you figure it out.
