Also remember if you make a claim on insurance. Comprehensive or collision it will show up on Carfax most likely.

True but honestly since my deductible is 500 and the reputable bodyshop is 600. That 100 difference is worth it not showing up on carfax or even the possibility of my rate going up.

Same, totalled my 2nd gen and the only increase in costs was due to my loan requiring a $250 comp deductible for some reason. With State Farm.

I agree with the folks saying paintless dent removal, that looks like a prime spot for it.

My friendly local Toyota body shop/dealer sells the information to Carfax. On behalf of that dealer, I'm eligible for a Carfax subscription.

If you're going to pay for it yourself, get it in writing that the repair facility doesn't share their records with Carfax or anyone else.

Then you have the wrong insurance company. A good company is not going to raise your rates over a 600-800 dollar fix when you are paying the first 500. I have had windshields replaced with 0 deductible. Never had my rates go up because of that claim. Never had my rates go up when my truck was totaled.

If you are concerned then just pay for the repair yourself and not go through the insurance company.

I second Slick Tacos recommendation on Paintless Dent Removal (PDR). I've had great luck with them myself.

For minor dings like this ask your dealer who they are using for their PDR work. Those guys are magicians.

First, bummer. The person that did this should have let you know and made it right.

    1. I'd carefully vet where you get your repair from. Try to find someone who has really good first-hand experience with a shop or person. I agree with skiploader regarding getting what you pay for.
    2. If this is a relatively new truck, I'd do #1^ and fix it right. Here's a different perspective: if it is my 3+ year-old truck with 60,000 miles (plus trail pinstripes, chipped paint from hauling rocks, scuffs from my kids climbing into the bed, etc.), I'd shrug off shelling out $500+ and use a $12 paint-matched touchup pen on those exposed areas to make the creases less visible. I might try the dent puller. Then I'd keep the money and call it a day.

My insurance company steadily jacked my rate to the point that it nearly doubled within a three year span. No accidents and no claims. (New truck purchase, move to a different city, and annual increases were the culprits. My favorite line they tried to sell me on was "your new truck has a lot of safety sensors, and those are expensive to repair should you ever damage them." o_O)

Having a claim-free record really helped when I shopped for a new insurance company. Which is what I now do annually.

I have not changed insurance companies in over 40 years. I have bundled home/vehicle/umbrella polices. Through the years I have a few claims for accidents that were not my fault. Had a few glass claims. I have seen a few bumps in insurance for the truck, but nothing like you are stating. Only real jump was when I purchased a brand new vehicle. Then the rates stayed the same or dropped over time.

imo, it pays to stay with a good company. The company I am with has provided good fair service through the years. They are not the cheapest, but they are not the most expensive.

Hell mine went down every time I got promoted or hit certain ages, never needed to ask for rate reductions. Payments for claims has always been spot on with little wait.

    @Meridius

First, welcome to TW. Second, sorry this happened. Third, this is all the reason you need for front and rear dash cams. It may not see the actual damage occured, but you reasonably gauge movement of the truck with people or vehicles passing by your in same timeframe.

It honestly took me by surprise. I'm not sure why the sudden ramp after 10 years of relative stability, and questions with my agent got strange explanations like the safety sensor one, and how Fort Worth is considered to be a higher risk than Houston. It's not like I go for the cheap "as seen on daytime tv" companies, I expect a fair price for good service. And this very reliable, reputable, brand name wasn't cutting it.

I dont know if I would have even caught it if I didnt keep spreadsheets that show all of my monthly expenses. But that was a definite lesson in brand loyalty. If I see an annual increase in bills more than 2% for any of my expenses, it's time to start a round of comparative pricing. :notsure: Internet and cell phones are the obvious worst culprits, but insurance has been on my radar since this happened.

I'm jealous though. I would love if some of my bills were reliable enough to not have to worry about.

I think you could have that repaired with painless dent removal. Also, do you let anyone else drive your truck? That damage sure looks like someone drove off with the gas nozzle still in the truck.

Nope. No one else drives my truck. I have only filled it up twice. This happened while parked while at a possible of two places.
