if run completely bone-dry, a Tacoma fuel tank will hold 21.557 gallons. Just an FYI. :(

LOL - Sorry 'bout that, but thanks for the first hand info. :) If makes you feel any better, back in the day, I literally coasted into a gas station as my engine was gasping for fuel. That was way too close.

According to toyota, it's only 21.1 gallons, you found some extra! :fistbump:

guessing you ran it dry and I am curious . Was it a problem at all having to prime the fuel pumps or hard starting after filling it ?

Nah. Like most computer controlled EFI, it goes into a safe mode of sorts when it gets too low. It’ll start, but won’t let the RPMs go up. It actually died close to the crest of a hill with about 10’ to go to get into a driveway. It would try to die as soon as I eased out the clutch and wouldn’t pull truck at all. It was a super sketchy piece of access road and I knew somebody looking at a phone would plow into me. I stuck it in 4 low and crawled in the driveway.

As soon as I dumped 2 gallons in, it fired right up. Great way to start the day.

hookembevo, did you happen to notice right below the digital speedometer on the dash it says miles to go before empty? im not being sarcastic, the reason i ask is , did it say something like 2 miles to go, before you ran out? i just want to see if there prediction of miles left is accurate.

Haha. No, that thing will sit at zero for 40-60 miles, although I would not recommend it.

I’d guess the station pump is off in their favor.

20180918_184807.jpg This was as far as I had run mine down but it only held 18.5 Gallons so they definitely give a small safety margin.

Gas pumps are highly regulated... so not likely.

Not a bad range if you're averaging 20 mpg

On my 2017 TRD OR LB I have run it 50 miles after it indicated I had 0 miles to empty. After it indicates you are out of gas, it simply says Please Refill. Yesterday I ran it about 15 miles past 0 and it took 19.57 gallons so I had about a gallon and a half left. I don't recommend this practice but it is nice to know when in a bind.

Based on my brief internet search, it looks like they're required to be accurate to within 0.3%

You can see the inspection labels on the pumps. Usually with a month and year punched out.
