I'm thinking about strapping a 5 gallon canister into the bed and driving till it's empty. The only thing that throws me off is the fact that the gauge is acting normally.

I just bought mine last Saturday and when I received it from the guy, the gas light was on. Filled up and only about 12 gallons were put in.

Yeah, mine is a 5 too. Maybe they built a smaller tank and used the leftover plastic for my sweet non-functional hood scoop.

Non-functional? Yes. Sweet? Yes. Totally worth it.

Agreed. It'll be even cooler when I get around to building that cyclon LED bar for it that I keep threatening to do.

Interested to see what the issue is. I regularly put 18+ in my 2015. Most I have put was 19.1 gal.

I usually fit about 17 in mine.
My light was on this morning when I left for work. Filled up with $20 at $1.99 gal. Got under 3/4 tank full, just over 10 gal.

    btw, sweet looking truck.

Toyotas are notorious for having large gas tank reserves. It's part of their "Africa Truck" heritage I think. All my toyos have been that way (6 and counting). In my experience with my '14 Taco, the moment the light comes on I need right about 17. So that means there's ~4 gallons left which equates to 50-80 miles. So you won't run out for maybe as much as another hour of continuous driving.

As for the OP, I'd wonder whether the gauge falls gradually or whether there are places where it seems to move pretty fast. Like, does the last half tank go super fast relative to the first (by what the guage is telling you)? Also, all you have to do the "replicate the issue" for the dealer is take it to them with the light on and have one of them come with you to fill it up (or put the arm on them to fill it). Taking a fresh receipt will be fine if they believe you.
