Truckers are important for sure. It pisses me off a little when drivers don't give them courtesy.

On another note - anarchy in the true meaning of the word has its merits.

I have only ever run 87 unless the car asked for premium. However just recently with all the hurricane stuff going on regular was hard to find so I ended up filling a tank with premium because I'd rather have a full tank of gas for a bit more than no gas. Didn't think anything of it and over the next couple days driving my usual route to and from work I noticed I was a lot less pissed by how the truck drove, everything seemed to be a little smoother power delivery seemed better, I'm probably just crazy. One turn into traffic I usually have trouble with just seemed much different. Last two tanks I've filled up with since then have been regular might try the premium again just to see...

Yep. Try climbing a grade - which I suppose might be a challenge in Florida - with E0 premium. Here on the west however, I can climb 6% plus grades at 2200 ish rpm 5th and 6th gear with room for more get up. With 500 + lbs in the bed.

I can climb overpasses in 3rd at 5k rpm because cruise control thinks that's completely necessary... Kidding aside those are about the closest thing we have to hills or grades. In that entire tank I don't think I drove on the highway once, might be a good test if I decide to fill up with premium again.

Sorry but this is totally anecdotal and almost certainly your own bias. You claim putting premium fuel in two trucks with 9.1-9.5:1 compression ratios IMPROVED performance? That just goes against basic physics... Until you're above at LEAST a 10:1 ratio your engine literally cannot create enough compression for premium to make a difference, there's no way your engine could even tell!

3rd gen is 11.6:1 so I can possibly see an improvement there but would require some testing.

<10:1 compression and its literally a waste. In low compression motors the QUALITY of gas is whats important (and ethanol content), not the octane rating. And a lot of people are fooled into believe "premium" = quality.

You're on the right track going with chevron or shell but thinking low compression motors benefit from high octane is baseless.

Running premium gas in a lawn mower is just hilarious, I mean if you makes you FEEL better go for it, but its definitely a case of feels > reals there.

How DARE you use science and LOGIC of all things on an internet forum! The audacity! I maintain that my jet fuel to water ratio is anecdotally better than anything available at the pump. When I drive uphill backwards in 9th gear it pulls better DUH....

Mid grade all day. Truck runs like a dog on regular, but I see no difference between mid and premium. That's Oregon anyway. I've noticed traveling that performance and mileage can vary from state to state with different gasolines.

Absolutely this. As long as it's "top-tier" detergent gas I don't really care.

I follow the manufacturer recommendation set out in the manual for any vehicle. My Challenger says premium, so that's what I do. The Jeep and the Taco, regular, so that's what I do. Never had a problem with any of these, nor with vehicles from my prior life (I'm an old geezer, been driving for over 50 years) if I followed the directions. I am firmly convinced that putting premium in a vehicle that calls for regular is a complete waste of $.

That's my opening position, too. I have to store a bunch of gas for 12 months, so I wind up having to burn a bunch of old gas. I'd much rather burn 12 month old non-ethanol gas, and if that means premium, then that's where I go.

Very much so! I use my truck to dispose of my emergency gasoline supply, so I have very different considerations. Were it not for that, I'd be top-tier, regular.

Nothing but regular from whatever reputable gas station I’m near goes in mine. Runs great no matter what, though I do seem to lose a little mileage with Sunoco.
I do avoid stations where they are filling the tanks.

Living in the Midwest you need spare gas to run the generator for power failures. With toys, gas cans, and two vehicles I always have more than 50 gallons. Scooters, quads, gas cans, and jetski all have stabilized top tier premium.
