Getting there, the front axles built, got the column all modified last night and got the u joint to fit. Today im making the steering shaft.

My axle that i flipped using my eyeballs and no true bar is nice and straight, rcvs fit in there with no drama, i didnt even need to clearence the knuckle balls!

Time for a pic heavy update:

I made my steering shaft, i started with a 37" borgensen collapse able DD shaft, and had to cut it down to 13" LOL.
    20160704_143817_zps2zhchiku_22fdd097ce9b683b9e9fb01ad8d7e4df83385680.jpg
    Chopped down

Steep ass angle at the steering box.
    20160704_150917_zpsbb4qz1ie_358571cdcb60f57ac0e43831a2104d030d70ac21.jpg
I ended up having to grind down the yokes:
    20160704_152458_zpsviyrhbbz_e3e2a413829a99746b9dd2e58d5414c3672848cf.jpg

Now it works great, no binding.
    20160704_150940_zpsszyvsyqs_68bc1d38033b1246550b77563b2c7bc9420eba28.jpg

Next up i test fitted the pitman arm and i am going to have to notch the frame and install a piece of 2"dom cut in half. I did that tonight, and its embarrassingly hack so there will be no pictures of that LOL.
    20160704_161410_zpsdvmk6nwn_91574ad97b59aa31eee33205eaeb00cddee41ade.jpg

I also fully built the front axle, everything is greased up ready to rock. It took me 2hrs to center the axle shaft in the spindle and set the pre load on the pax side, drivers side was dead center and pre load perfect with the stock shims. I'm just glad the axle wasnt bent to hell and i put it back together straight.

The stock IFS front driveshaft fits perfectly, i am sure im going to hate that it hangs below the springs, but there's no changing that now.

I also did a ton of little crap like hook up the radiator, hook up the belts and boring crap like that. I hope to have it on the street Friday. I have some bilstein 7100's12" short bodies that should be here in a few days, i just need to weld on the shock mounts, bleed the brakes, hook up all the steering and align it and im ready to drive!

Took another look at that pic of the shaft and it does appear to be in-phase. That is a pretty steep angle.

Thanks man. "Cost effective", simple and reliable is what im going for here.

Trust me ive been living off coffee here at work for a few weeks now, its been an almost non stop thrash session after work until late at night trying to get this thing done before going on my trip on the 22nd. This stuff is so damn tedious and takes FOREVER!!

On track to hit the road friday. Measured and made my steering hoses, set the alignment, finished up my hacked up frame notch and discoverd i only have 2" of uptravel until my tie rod hits my pitman arm, good times.... i must have moved the box forward or didnt test fit the box with the pitman arm on it. Oh well thats what bump stops are for i guess. I have a 15 item punch list for tomorrow night.

That's good news... back on the road again.

My list grew to 20+... once I did one thing, another was added. I'm down to 7 items.

What are you going to do about the up-travel?

What are you doing with the firewall plate? It looks as if the joint from the steering column will get into the seal like mine originally did.
