Not a fan of this vendor at all either. I'd be pretty pissed if the input on my new trans was borked liked that.

Yeah just sucks when quality is a competitive advantage, and then there's crap in there. I mean shit the bearing from Toyota is 5bucks list! I'll throw an OEM clutch in there while it's all apart, the disc is 70bucks.

Yeah, not the trans fault per se, symptom of the main problem. The trans kicks ass overall!

Not as fucked as I thought. I was worried I was going to have to flap disc down the input or even swap it, not so! It's only off by .005" between the thickest and thinnest part. I'm going to toss a new (Toyota, not mar... I mean Chinese shit) pilot bearing at it and see what happens. Waiting on a slide hammer since the bearing blew apart using the grease method. Also good news, no gear lube on the clutch disc!
No idea how this flywheel looks, any opinions?

Told you to be patient and check out your input before going off the deep end!

If you replaced/surfaced the flywheel when you put the new trans (and presumably a new clutch) in then I'd call it good. If you were swapping in a new disk, I'd probably get it surfaced just for piece of mind to make sure that the new disk mates correctly.

I'm not going to swap the clutch. New flywheel when I did the clutch, it was cheaper new than resurfaceing. Do you need a new pressure plate when swapping the clutch?

Think of it as a second flywheel friction surface. New disk, I'd probably swap in a new pressure plate like I would a flywheel so the new disk does not glaze.

That's what I figured thanks! I'm putting this clutch back in, it felt fine and didn't have any oil contamination.

Parts to fix this thing finally came in. A legit actual Japanese pilot bearing, not a Chinese imposter. I also got some new motor mounts that will go in before next wheeling season.

Got the truck done today, drives great then again I only took it out for 20mins. Crazy how much less drivetrain movement there is even though I went back to stock rubber tcase mounts. With the mount located so far back now I think that's controlling everything alot better than my stiff poly mount in the stock location. Hopefully this solves some other issues I have been having as well. Can't wait to take it wheeling after I get the new motor mounts in and chain them!

Y'all recommend OEM for the whole clutch assembly then? I need to get mine replaced and was set on them before reading this. They have 10% off for an end of year sale too.

I would, it would all be right around the same price as the Marlin kit. My next clutch will be all oem parts. I ended up reusing all the clutch parts that were in there already. Only part changed was the pilot bearing.

Put around 100miles on the truck in 2days with a bunch of that at highway speeds and no leaks! Back to web wheeling and plotting my hydro assist while the Tacoma goes back into winter hibernation/drive if the DD breaks.

@slander Did you say you used an OEM flywheel on your last/current clutch? If so where did you source it?

Thoughts on replacing trans mount while it's all torn apart?

I think I used a parts store flywheel. I would leave the trans mount unless it's ripping apart.

This POS hasn't moved since nov, it's currently boxed in by my dead former DD Camry that's giving up it's seats to the tacoma and going to the scrap yard as soon as it thaws out here. I'm waiting for my neighbors to start an HOA because of me... Dead camry in the drive, pallet leaning against the side of the house, scrap metal pile next to pallet, and a rust stained driveway from grinding dust...

    Lol. Redneck!

Your junk will have to be grandfathered in to the HOA as an exception.

Some DD tech (daily driver not double d's): got a grandpa fresh 2003 Avalon from my wife's grandma for free, fully loaded, leather everything with right around 50k on it, score! This is replaceing my 99 215k mile falling apart middle manager beige camry. The rear subwoofer on the Avalon came pre blown out, so I decided it's getting replaced with a $20 Amazon special since the sound quality of a walk man sucks. Reading car audio forums and all I read about is how much of a bitch replaceing the rear sub is "yo you have to take out the entire back seat to get the deck lid off or trim a bunch of shit to get it out g" is all I was reading. So i geared up to spend all day in the driveway Sunday since my 25 going on 14 yr old sister law was over and I needed to GTFO out of the house. Took me less than 10mins to swap this thing, including 3mins with the flap disc modifying a plastic retaining ring to hold the sub in. Are people on car audio forums that inept? No decklid removal, no mad cutting yo, just some prying with a screwdriver.

Needless to say I learned about how "like totally Susie is suuuuuuch a huge bitch at work but like totally whatever" on repeat for 3hrs....
