Thinking of ways to better utilize the bed space on this truck. The 37" spare laying flat in the middle of the rear takes up a ton of room and makes it a bitch to pack for wheeling trips. I'm usually strapping stuff all over it and it's hard to pack things around the tire, or filling up the cab with crap. The solution, I have a fab tech spare tire carrier that I no longer use, going to chop it up and mount the plate to the bottom of the bed. Instead of using ratchet straps, I'm going to shove the tire and far right and I can and attach it using the mounts still keeping it flat. This should give me enough room to either mount my gerrey can holder, or a cooler on the left side of the tire. This would also get rid of the ratchet straps holding the tire down which sucks up a ton of space. I also want to patch the holes in the bed and protect the top if the shocks better, it's a PITA to load things in the bed like boxes and drywall.

The overland kids aren’t impressed. Needs tri-fold swing-out tire carrier with a pop out sink and an espresso press.

    Ooooooooo good idea!!

The wanna be rock crawlers would also be pissed that I'm not thinking a 45" long tube bed.

I am still thinking a headache rack because if I have to get drywall or lumber I have to prop it up on the cab. It makes all kinds of weird noises, luckly lowes and home depot are both less than a mile from here. That way I can protect the cab, whatever I'm carrying and have something to strap it to. Also I can mount 1900000000lumens of rear facing LEDs on it for broverlanding.

Pardon my coming late to the party, and I hope you have this fixed by now- but have you considered simply running your hydro hoses in Firesleeve? It's made specifically for this sort of application- hydraulic systems run in prox to exhausts, keeps the temps down.

I had a similar issue in my SAS build, this fixed it.

In all seriousness I would have been stoked to get on there solely to hang out with pistol Pete (RIP). That dude was a badass, he was so cocky, yet so shitty at desert racing at the same time.

A good friend of mine was on there in season 1. They recommended she remove her wheel spacers during garage time. The next obstacle was where they stratal 2 posts (like a bridge with no center). She DNF'd because she kept falling off due to being too narrow.

Anyway. I'm going to go back to hitting on my ex's mom. Maybe I'll update my build thread on here some time soon. Great catching up with you Geoff.

    That sucks.

Good luck scoring with your ex's mom! Just drop the tried and true line of "I would like to put food and drink in you in a romantic manner" she will be putty in your hands...

For the box, use something like a starter.heat blanket. It's a reflective foil with fiberglass batting sewed to ir. Works for satellites in orbit, I'm sure it will work here. Combine that with your sheetmetal plate (maybe with some more of the blanket on the cool.side) and I think you could put this issue to bed entirely.
